Seldon Bain Graham's Master's Thesis War Activities Of Robertson County 1917 - 1919 contains lists of the men who served the United States in World War I. Among those named are twelve sons of New Baden's early European settlers. These young men were brought up in Deutsch-speaking households. Six of them proudly served overseas during their tours of duty. Jacob and Catharina Maria Luedemann Dieckmann saw two of their sons inducted into the US Army on the same day; both sons later served their parents' adopted homeland overseas. Godfrey & Mary Elizabeth Crawford Becktold sent two sons to war; Oskar Alwin "Faust" & Bertha "Bettie" Keller Ullrich sent three.
