Ebenezer aka Headsville Cemetery

Limestone/Robertson County TX

The Ebenezer Cemetery Association meets the second Saturday in October  each year for
old-time singing, reminiscing, and visiting.  The gathering, which begins in the old church & is followed by dinner on the grounds, starts at 10 AM and lasts until 3 PM.  The church is comfortable and has fans as well as restroom facilities.

An historic marker reads: "Ebenezer Baptist Church and Cemetery. The Ebenezer Baptist Church was organized in 1865 to serve the Head's Prairie and Headsville Communities. Delegates to the Trinity Baptist Association meeting that year were J. R. Bullard, William Samuel Clark, and Thomas Seale Head, with the Rev. J. W. Kinnard as Pastor. Membership grew from 41 in 1865 to 210 in 1897, but by 1958 membership had declined so the congregation disbanded. The adjacent cemetery has served residents in this part of Limestone County since at least 1876 when both B. F. Brooks and Charley Owen were buried there." (?/1986)

The Ebenezer Cemetery is located in Limestone County right on the Limestone/Robertson County line and served residents of both counties. When going from Marquez toward Kosse on Highway 7, the cemetery is about a mile down a dirt road if you turn left at the Headsville Community. Located off of this dirt road to the right when going from Headsville toward Bremond, the cemetery is west of Hwy 7, west of County Road 462, east of County Road 459, and 6 to 7 miles southeast of Kosse. Many of the tombstones at this cemetery were moved from the nearby Head Cemetery.

Carl Thompson (last known email is bouncing cthom@sat.rr.com)is now the lookup person for this cemetery.  He travels to this cemetery often and his Mother, grandparents and others are buried here.  Thank you so much Carl!!!
