(Pioneers of Robertson County by Robert Scott Patrick,

REED, HENRY (1800–1854). Henry Reed (Reid), soldier and jurist, was born on November 10, 1800, in Lebanon, Tennessee. On June 25, 1829, he married Nancy Caruth. After arriving in Texas from Arkansas with his nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, he received a grant of one league along Muddy Creek in the Sterling C. Robertson colony, on January 1, 1835. At the battle of San Jacinto Reed served as third sergeant in Capt. William Kimbro's Company Eight of Col. Sidney Sherman's Second Regiment, Texas Volunteers. He was elected captain of the San Augustine Volunteers, a militia company organized on June 4, 1836, for three months' service. He was also brigade quartermaster in Col. Edwin Morehouse's regiment. By 1840 he owned 4,560 acres in Robertson County, where, on June 10, 1844, he was appointed chief justice. Reed died on November 11, 1854, and was buried six miles east of Calvert. In 1836 his grave was marked with a Texas Centennial Commission monument.
