Seth Dorbandt
Obituary

Seth W. Dorbandt, Civic leader and former President and Chairman of the Board of The First National Bank of Conroe, which is now Bank of America, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 101 years old.

Seth was born in Bertram, Texas in October of 1910, graduated from Georgetown High School in 1926 and attended The
University of Texas and Southwestern University (Class of '32).

Mr. Dorbandt was a member of the Texas Bankers Association, having served as The Chairman of the First District. He was a member of the Executive Committee of The American Bankers Association and was a former member of The Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

Seth served his community for many years. He was a past President of The Conroe
Rotary Club, Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Conroe Country Club, and The Conroe Shrine Club. Seth was named Montgomery County's "Outstanding Citizen" in 1971 by The Chamber of Commerce. He received the "Paul Harris Award", the highest honor awarded by Rotary International in 1986. Seth was awarded a "Citation of Merit" from Southwestern University in 1989. Seth was inducted to the "Wall of Fame" by the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the "Silver Beaver" award by the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Seth was on the Board of Trustees, for both the Montgomery County Industrial Foundation and Conroe Industrial Foundation. Seth was a former Director of the Gulf States Utilities Company (now Entergy), the San Jacinto River Authority, the YMCA - Greater Houston Area, the Montgomery County United Way (founding member), East Texas Chamber of Commerce, Houston Regional Council on Alcoholism, Old Republic Title Company - Conroe, Montgomery County Airport (founding member), and served on The Executive Board of The Sam Houston Area Council of The Boy Scouts of America. He was a lifetime member and on the Advisory Board of the Montgomery Fair Association. Seth was also a 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Knights Templer, and Shriner, Arabia Temple.

Mr. Dorbandt was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conroe and served on their Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, and Finance Committee.

Mr. Dorbandt was preceded in death by his wife, Helen W. Dorbandt, his two daughters Helen Ann Alworth and Martha D. Watkins, and his long time best friend Ms. Katy D. Hill. Seth is survived by his five grandchildren: Jeffrey S. Watkins of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ashlea A. Alworth of Conroe, Texas, Ryan H. Alworth of Conroe, Texas, Creed W. Watkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jared S. Watkins of New York, New York, his Son-in-law: Lee G. Alworth of Conroe, Texas, plus nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Seth requested the following be his Pallbearers: Mr. Rigby Owen Jr., Lee G. Alworth, Ryan H. Alworth, Henry Brooks, Steve McClain, Billy Wood, Foster Madeley, and the late Frank Waddle.

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. May 12 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 4308 W. Davis Street, Conroe, Texas. A reception will be held at the church following the service.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Seth's name to any of the following: The First United Methodist Church of Conroe, 4308 W. Davis Street Conroe, Texas 77304, the Boy Scouts of America at
www.shac.org , or to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
