Funeral Services for Charlie "CL" Martin, Jr. are set for 2 p.m. Monday at
Metcalf Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation
will be held 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Born Oct. 20, 1924 at
Dacus, Texas - Died Feb. 18, 2005 at Nacogdoches, Texas. Beloved son of
Charlie Lee Martin, Sr. (Lee) and Effie Mae (Johnson) Martin of Dacus,
Texas. Last residence at 206 Cherry Street Pineland, TX 75968. Brothers
Kenneth Carroll (deceased), Belvyn Bryant Carroll of San Diego, Ca, William
Lavan Martin (deceased). Father of Audry Martin (deceased), Sandra Martin,
Gayle Richards, Charlie Lee Martin, III, Robert Martin, Paul Lavan Martin,
Billy Martin, Sidney Martin, Sterling Martin, Dixie Simon, Angel Sterner. He
was a great Father with a kind heart. Sandra Martin of Beaumont, Texas,
three sons and two daughters, seven grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchildren (deceased). Gayle
Richards of Austin Texas, one son and two daughters. Charlie and Gloria
Martin of Waco Texas, two sons and three daughters, two grandsons and seven
granddaughters. Robert and Rosie Martin of Waco, Texas, one son and one
daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughters. Paul and Lucia Martin of
Memphis, Tenn., two sons and two daughters, two granddaughters. Sidney and
Shelly Martin of Pineland, Texas, five children, and nine grandchildren.
Sterling and Sue Martin of Pineland, Texas, four children, two
grandchildren. Dixie Simon of New Waverly, Texas, two sons and two
daughters. Angel and Joey Sterner of Lone Oak, Texas, three daughters.
Graduated from Montgomery High School, Texas in 1942, attended a skills
course after high school and became a welder on "Liberty" ships for World
War II in August of 1942. Joined the Navy in early 1944, rode a new LST 823
from Evansville, In down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico,
through the Panama Canal and onto the Pacific war. Rode in the battle group
with Admiral Bull Halsey through several great Typhoons. Was on top of Mount
Suribachi when the war ended. Came home and became a truck driver, a
Preacher for 26 years, a bus driver of Houston Metro. Retired and traveled
Texas.
