I have been trying to help one of the members of our Society to trace her family.
|
She tells me that there was a Petersen family cemetery surveyed many years ago and posted online for a time. I have been unsuccessful at locating its existence or the burials therein.
Her mother (Lucille Epperson Matthews-grandchild of Soren Petersen & Maggie Pullin) gave the info as to the 5 - 6 graves there. There was supposed to have been:
|
Sorrel/Soren) Petersen; |
Maggie Pullin Petersen (wife) (parents of Lucy Petersen Epperson/Blunt); |
One (1) Petersen infant; |
Two (2) McShan infants or children (of Henry Clay & Emma Augusta Needham McShan); |
One Sallas male (Son of Arthur H. Sallas & Ellen Honor Moore.)
|
She was told, after the fact that, when Wal-Mart was doing the tractor work for the parking lot in Porter, they unearthed human remains/bones. She was not living in the area for several
years and I suppose the Wal-Mart people never contacted her mother. |
|
I would like to know if you have any idea where we might start to find where the bones might be stored. It is my understanding that they lawfully can't have been destroyed. Many years
ago, our member purchased an extra burial plot in White Oak Cemetery, near Lucy Petersen/Epperson/Blunt (daughter of Soren and Maggie) and Lucille E. Matthews (granddaughter of Soren and Maggie) specifically to inter the remains, should they ever be
found. Our member is in her 80's and really wants to attempt to get this matter settled while she is living. |
Please help if you can!
Thanks,
|

The cemetery was located in Porter where the Wal-Mart parking lot is now over toward Home Depot. Part of the land was owned by Henry Clay McShan & Emma Augusta Needham and the part
closer to Home Depot all the way to White Oak Creek was owned by Soren Petersen and Maggie Pullin. |
