BERTHA KOEPPEN KITZMANN

Bertha Koeppen Kitzmann was born in Cat Spring, Austin County, Texas on December 2, 1880 to parents Adolph Koeppen and Elise (Louise) Waack Koeppen.   She was born on the farmstead off Newburg Road on what is now called Koeppen Trail.  Her paternal grandparents were Wilhelm Koeppen and wife Ida Kaufl Koeppen.  Her maternal grandparents were Johann Joachim Waack and wife Ilsabe Maria Peters Waack.  Bertha Koeppen was predeceased by her husband John Emil Kitzmann.

Graveside Services Held in Pattison for Mrs. Bertha Kitzmann

Mrs. Bertha Kitzmann died suddenly on Friday morning, June 6, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Miller in Houston.  Funeral services were held in Houston at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon with graveside services in the Pattison Methodist Cemetery.  Rev. Geo. Reck officiated.  She was 77 years of age.  Survivors are her two sons,  Burnett and Edward Lee Kitzmann,  two daughters,  Mrs. Mary Miller and Mrs. Otto Droske, a number or grandchildren, and other relatives including her sister-in-law Mrs. C. A. Wilpitz and brothers-in-law Otto and Henry Kitzman of Brookshire.  Mrs. Kitzmann lived with her son, Edward, but was at the home of her daughter when she became ill.

Mrs. Bertha Kitzman, 77, of 5018 South Acres Drive, died 7:10 a.m. Friday.  Survivors, sons, Burnett and Edward Lee Kitzman, daughters Mrs. Margaret Miller, Mrs. Lucille Droske; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers Willie and Walter Koeppen, all of Houston.  Services 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Earthman Chapel, the Rev. George Reck, burial Pattison Cemetery, Pattison.  Pallbearers: Eddie Kriegel, Clarence Simpson, E. S. Smith, I. C. Martin, Wilson Stasney, Earthman Funerals, 2420 Fannin St., Fairfax 3-6377.

ADELE (BROCKMAN) MEWIS
Mrs. R. W. Mewis, 72
Dies Saturday, Rites
Held Here Monday
 
Funeral rites for Mrs. Richard W. Mewis, 72, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral Home here. The Rev. Floyd Medford of Sealy officiated, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Tubbs of Houston.
 
Six grandsons, Hubert Frank, Arnold Frank Jr., Harry Lee Mewis, Earl Mewis, Carl Hoff and Robert Blum, served as pallbearers. Interment was at Oak Knoll.
 
Mrs. Mewis died at 4.10 p.m. Saturday, April 23, after an illness of nine months. She was the widow of the late Mr. Mewis, who died Sept. 3, 1951, and was widely known over the county. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, loved and esteemed by all who knew her.
 
Born Sept. 30, 1882 in the Piney community, she was the former Miss Adele Brockman, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brockmann. As a girl she atended the Coshatte school, and on Sept. 30, 1900, was married to Mr. Mewis in Bellville.
 
Surviving are 44 direct descendants, including five daughters, Mrs. Arno Frank, Mrs. Elda Hoff, Mrs. Otto Falk and Mrs. Max Kaliszewski of Bellville and Mrs. George Bender of Brenham; six sons, Roland, Gilbert, Rubin and Marvin Mewis of Bellville, Roman Mewis of Texas City and Delmus Mewis of La Grange; two sisters, Mrs. Hulda Schield and Mrs. Erna Meyer of Houston; two brothers, Walter and Edwin Brockman of Houston; 26 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. One brother, Arthur Brockman, preceded her in death.
