James Dudley Wheeler,
formerly of Paige, Texas, was born on February 12, 1940 in Pleasant
Hill, Louisiana to James Arthur and Pauline E. (McClabb) Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler earned an Associates Degree in Business at Kilgore
Junior College, Kilgore, Texas. He then served in the U. S. Army,
receiving the rank of Sp4. He was employed in the oilfield supply
industry and by L & F Manufacturing. Dudley enjoyed working with the
Paige 4-H Club and putting out American flags in several cemeteries
for Memorial Day celebrations. He served on the Board of the Paige
Community Center and was instrumental in the construction of the
pavilion at the center. He supported the Paige Volunteer Fire
Department and loved participating in all the “cook-offs”. He was
passionate about his bowling, both in the Senior League and in the
Paige League. He also was a member of the Bastrop American Legion
Post 533. He played the washboard with several bands in the area and
enjoyed singing karaoke, but just relaxing with his friends was
always fine, too.
He passed away at his home in San Antonio on Friday, August 30, 2013
at the age of 73 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline Wheeler.
Survivors include his sister, Sondra Kay Wheeler of San Antonio,
Texas; his brother, John K. Wheeler and wife, Shirley, of
Pennsylvania; a niece, Lee Ann Browning of Pennsylvania; two
nephews, Lonnie Wheeler of Pennsylvania and Leslie Wheeler of San
Antonio; 4 great nieces; 2 great nephews; 1 great, great nephew as
well as a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:00 A.M.
at
Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings, Texas with burial
at the Ridgeway Cemetery in Paige, Texas following. Visitation will
be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with
the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday September 4,
2013 from 7:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.
A luncheon, provided by and served at the Paige Community Center,
will follow the conclusion of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Gilbert, Ray McCorquodale,
Johnny Moore, Jack Murray, Tom Stevens, David LaGrone, and Rick
Stahura.
The family requests memorials may be made to the American Legion,
the Paige Volunteer Fire Department, or to a charity of your choice.
