Gene R. Montgomery |
LTC (Ret) Gene R. Montgomery, born July 8, 1930, of
Montgomery, Texas died suddenly August 26, 2006. Gene was the recipient of
the Purple Heart for injuries received while a 2nd Lt., in the 38th Calvary,
2nd Inf. Div., in the Korean War. He maintained a life membership in the VFW
in Nashville, MI., and a life membership in the Texas State DAV. Gene
retired from the U. S. Army Reserve with over 29 years combined active and
reserve duty. He was a graduate of University of Michigan and also earned
his MBA there. After being employed in New York City and Upstate New York as
an accountant and controller for several firms, he relocated to the North
Houston area and worked in a management capacity in the oil industry. Upon
retirement, he relocated to Cape Conroe. He was a member of Montgomery
United Methodist Church, the Cape Conroe Men's Club, Montgomery County
Genealogical and Historical Society, and a life member of Clan Montgomery
Society International. He was a HAM operator, having obtained his original
license in the mid-1940's. Gene received his Eagle Scout award in Nashville,
MI in 1945. Gene is survived by his wife, Faye; his sons, Dr. John R.
Montgomery, DDS of Montgomery, Texas and Dr. James A. Montgomery and wife
Deanna of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Kay and husband Dennis Collier of
Lake Wylie, South Carolina; step-sons, Doug and wife Sally Caffrey of
Grantham, New Hampshire and Ken and Sheryl Caffrey of Midlothian, Virginia;
grandchildren, Ian, Peter, Betsy, Amanda, and Evan Montgomery, and Sarah,
Mary and Sam Caffrey; sister-in-law Beverly and husband Bob Waters of Des
Arc, Arkansas; brother-in-law Charles Jackson of Hazen, Arkansas; Sister
Mary Caffrey, RSM, of Jamestown, Rhode Island and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Montgomery, Texas
on Tuesday August 29th 6-8 pm. Memorial services officiated by
Rev. Hiram “Doc” Jones are scheduled at the Montgomery United Methodist
Church, 22548 Hwy 105 West, Montgomery on Wednesday, August 30th
at 10 am. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans
Memorial Dr. Houston under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral
Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Montgomery United
Methodist Church, Box 1330, Montgomery, Texas 77356 Attn: Building Fund.
