Stowe Cemetery |
Stowe Cemetery has been totally desecrated. |
To visit the
remains of Stowe Cemetery, take FM1485 from Hwy 105 traveling towards Grangerland. About 2 miles
before Grangerland and in the vicinity of the Freeman Cemetery, turn to the left on Linda Lane. Linda Lane forks after about ½ mile; bear
to the right on Denise Street. Denise Street curves to the left and curves to the
left again in about 2 city blocks. About ½ way between these two curves on the
left are the remains of the Stowe Cemetery. The land is between two nice homes
in a wooded area. There are remains of a cyclone fence which is overgrown and
almost totally covered in vines. It appears a pit was dug and used as a garbage
dump at the front of what was once the cemetery. If you follow along the 2nd
house’s cleared property next to the overgrown woods near the back where their
barn is located you go left into the woods. I found only two headstones: I was
unable to read the one still standing upright and I could/would not lift the other
stone to see if it was readable. Key Map 191W.
