Emily
Smyth Allen, one of my 2nd great grandmothers. I
actually visited the cemetery last year & noted the
error on the tombstone. Her maiden name was Allen & her
married name was Smyth.
The three Smyth's and Wagley in the list were four of
her children.
She was born in KY. She married Andrew F. Smyth of
Jasper. He was a landowner in Jasper who is best known
perhaps as the owner and captain of the steamboat Laura
which plied the Angelina & Neches rivers. Andrew came
from Alabama while Texas was still a part of Mexico.
One of her grandfathers was Joseph Grigsby who helped
found Beaumont & founded Grigsby's Bluff which is now
Port Neches in Jefferson County.
