                                                - Cochran, Henry C.  1808 - 1850    Received land grant in Newton in 1849; buried at Old Belgrade Cemetery.
 
                                                
                                                - Holmes, Thomas  1800 - 1869     First chief justice of Newton County.     Buried in Jasper County.
 
                                                
   
                                                - McFarland, Thomas Stuart  1810 - 1880     Buried at McFarland-Wilson Cemetery in Bleakwood.
 
                                                
                                                - McFarland, William  1774 - 1840     Buried at McFarland-Wilson Cemetery in Bleakwood.
 
                                                
                                                - McBride, Stephen Alexander  1834 - 1920    Cofounder of Shankleville community; started McBride College.
 
                                                
						- Phelps, Enoch S. S.  1804 - 1869    First pastor of Old Union Church and is buried there at the cemetery.
 
                                                
                                                - Stephenson, Rev. Henry  1772 - 1841     Charter member of Spears Chapel Methodist Church.     Buried at McMahon Cemetery in Burkeville.
 
                                                
                                                - Wilson, Francis  1790 - 1867    Methodist minister starting in 1815; moved to Newton County in 1847; buried at Old Belgrade Cemetery.
 
                                                
                                                - Woods, John  1785 - 1863    Father of Sebern; came to Texas in 1840; buried at Woods Cemetery in Burkeville.
