Das Wochenblatt
Supplement on 17 August
Karl Caletka passed away today at nine o'clock at his home in the Neu Buerger settlement. He had been ill for a number of years. According to the doctor he was suffering from high blood pressure. His passing away was therefore not totally unexpected, even though he was not yet an old man. He worked hard all his life and managed to become well-off so that he could easily have retired. Unfortunately he never managed to find his deserved rest and suffered badly in recent times. As both the doctor's treatment and the best nursing could not bring him relief, one can say that his death has brought him relief. He was born in Cat Spring on 10 January 1869, was raised here and married Miss Auguste Michaelis in 1894. The couple have since lived on the farm. He leaves behind his grieving wife, a daughter, Mrs. Hertha Renz, Eagle Lake, and a son Alfred Caletka, Cat Spring, and many relatives and friends. His funeral took place on the Nicholai Cemetary, the service being held by Pastor Bengston from Sealy. The funeral service was led by the members of the S.P.J.S.T. lodge. My condolences to all the bereaved.

Tina Marie Cass, 46, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2021.

She was born on July 14, 1975 in Bellville, Texas. She was a twin and loved for it to be known she was the older sister. Tina graduated from Sealy High School in 1993. She continued on to be a Branch Manager of Comerica Bank for many years. Tina married Russell (Rusty) Cass on April 9, 2005. They celebrated 16 years of marriage this year. She was a Loan Officer for Liberty Star Mortgage for the past 9 years. She enjoyed helping others find their dream home. She took pride in participating in BNI group to network with other small businesses to assist with any need imageable.

However, what she found to be her biggest joy is being a mom to her boys Dillon and Kyle Cass. Tina enjoyed supporting her sons during their football games and encouraging them to be involved in what they find joy in. Tina loved to take the family deer hunting annually and have family over to assist in making sausage and jerky. She was known for her big heart and willing attitude. There was never an obstacle too big for Tina. She found It as a challenge that she would conquer. She was one her family would count on whether to be a listening ear or to make a smile. She will be greatly missed, but it is with joy we know she is no longer in pain and will now watch over those she loved while dancing with the Lord.

Tina was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest and Bernetta Hering; her parents, Tommy Gentry and Debbie Hering; as well as her cousin, Dale Lilley.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Russell (Rusty) Cass, are her sons, Dillon and Kyle Cass; twin sister, Gena Conant; and brother, Jason Gentry; along with aunts, many cousins, nieces, and nephew.

Veteran: Korea, CPL, US Army, US 61 Engr Bn Family- Father: Anton Cerny Sr, Mother: Frances Baklik, Spouse: Georgie Prokop Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: Findagrave, GenFolks

The Sealy News, October 1, 2019-

Anton William Cerny, Jr. was born in El Campo, TX on February 4, 1929 to parents Anton Cerny and Frances Baklik Cerny. He left this world peacefully on September 30, 2019, surrounded by his family. Anton grew up on his parents' farm where he worked until he was drafted into the United States Army on March 8, 1951 where he served in the 61st Construction Battalion. On December 29,1951, he married the love of his life, Georgie Prokop, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in December of 2018. They were blessed with eight wonderful children (these are Dad's words not ours)- Carolyn Jean Bilski (Joe), Melvin Ray Cerny (Brenda), Janet Faye Hunt (Steve), David Wayne Cerny (Diane), Joyce Ann Junco, Steven Charles Cerny (Donna), Leroy James Cerny, and Donna Lynn Billnoske (Steven).

Anton worked for Sealy Tractor for 44 years where he made many of his lifelong friends. In addition to raising eight children and working full-time at Sealy Tractor, Anton was an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for over 40 years, served on the Church Council and Catholic School Board, and was a member of the KJT, serving as secretary for over 40 years. He served on the Sealy ISD School Board for 18 years and also served on the Austin County Fair Board.

In April 1997 he started a used tractor and equipment business with his son, Leroy, and actively worked at "he lot" until January 2019.

Anton is survived by his wife, Georgie Prokop Cerny; all eight of his children; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Cerny and his sister, Margie Kutach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Frances Cerny; his brother, Alphonse Cerny; his sisters, Lillian McKee, Ella Cervenka, and Irene Lutringer; and his beautiful granddaughter, Nicole Lauren Billnoske.

Anton had the highest integrity, work ethic, and character, always setting an example for his children and extended family, and offering each of them unconditional love. He had the kindest heart, loved people in general, and even to his last days always said he was doing "wonderful". He loved going to his kids and grandkids sporting and school events and was each one's biggest fan.

Working at "the lot" was not work to him, and he looked forward to the next deal' he would make. He loved going to the pasture to check on his cows and going on his "business" trips to Louisiana. He also loved going to dances, and to watch him and Georgie was heart-warming as they glided along the dance floor.

Each time as we were leaving after a visit, he gave us the peace sign and said "be sweet". His presence in this world made it a better place. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Peace, daddy, and be sweet.

A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m., all at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 600 Fourth St., Sealy, TX 77474. Cerny, Georgie (Prokop) (22 Feb 1932 - 27 May 2024)

Family- Father: Joe Prokop, Mother: Emilie Machala, Spouse: Anton William Cerny Jr. Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: GenFolks

Georgie Prokop Cerny, wife of the late Anton Cerny Jr., passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by family on May 27, 2024, at the age of 92. Georgie is survived by all 8 of her children- Carolyn Bilski (Joe), Melvin Cerny (Brenda), Janet Hunt (Steve), David Cerny (Diane), Joyce Junco, Steven Cerny (Donna), Leroy Cerny, and Donna Billnoske (Steven). In addition, she is survived by 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many others whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Anton, her parents, Joe and Emilie (Machala) Prokop, her siblings, Ludmilla Prokop, Henry Prokop, and Lillie Jaloway, as well as her beautiful granddaughter, Nicole Lauren Billnoske.

Georgie was born in Wallis, Texas on February 22, 1932. She lived in several places in her early years before her family settled in the Mixville Community of Frydek near her maternal grandparents. She was the youngest of the 4 children.

Georgie always saw the importance of education. She grew up attending a small country school in Frydek where she made a point to be present despite any obstacles the weather may have presented. She dreamed of being a teacher and inspired many of her children to become educators. She graduated at the top of her class in 1949 from Sealy High School and went on to attend business school in Houston, Texas.

On December 29, 1951, she married Anton, the love of her life. Georgie followed him as he served in the Army for the first years of their marriage before eventually settling in Sealy, TX where they built a home and became an established part of the community. Together, Anton and Georgie raised 8 children who were blessed to have them as parents.

Georgie was the ultimate matriarch and example of unwavering love. She was one of the most faithful, respectful, caring, and accepting individuals who led by her actions rather than words. She loved going to her kids' and grandkids' events and attended as many as she could. Everyone claimed to be her favorite because that's how special she made each person feel. She would always offer a listening ear and became "the keeper of all secrets" as everyone knew her trust was unmatched.

No one ever left her house hungry. There was no better place to be than sitting around her kitchen table sharing stories and eating her specialty, German chocolate cake. She treasured the daily lunches and suppers with her kids, grandkids, and whoever else showed up. She didn't say much, but she always had some piece of wisdom or wisecrack to add to the lively discussions. We are thankful for her time on Earth and have absolutely no doubt that she is in Heaven with the love of her life and our sweet Nicole. Thanks for a lifetime of love and memories. Until we meet again, rest easy, dance with the angels, keep watching over us just as you always have, and have a German chocolate cake ready for us.

Charpiot, Shirley Tucker (4 Oct 1926 - 13 Apr 2024)

Family- Father: Elza Jeremiah Tucker, Mother: Mary Louise “Lou” Isbell, Spouse: Bob Charpiot References: GenFolks

Shirley Tucker Charpiot passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024. She was born in Houston on October 4, 1926, to Mary Louise "Lou" Isbell and Elza Jeremiah Tucker, natives of Woodville, Texas. She was the youngest of five siblings. After attending schools in Houston, Woodville, and Hempstead, she enrolled in high school in Bellville where she graduated in 1940 as class Salutatorian.

It was in Bellville where she met her husband, Bob Charpiot, on the bus ride to school from the Racoon Bend oil fields. She and Bob married at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in 1947. They remained active life-long parishioners and loved serving and celebrating the Lord at St. Mary's.

When their sons, Robert and David, were young, the family treasured their time outdoors. Shirley enjoyed shooting quail and dove alongside her boys at their hunting lease in Devine, Texas. The family traveled across the United States exploring state and national parks in their travel trailer with dear friends.

Shirley, known as "Sho-Sho", had a close relationship with her three granddaughters. They spent countless hours dressing up in her clothes, playing in the tree house, baking cookies, and learning how to play card games. Shirley made sure her granddaughters knew how to properly set a table and was not shy about correcting their grammar. Shirley was an example of a strong woman both inside and outside the home and emphasized the importance of family, faith, and education.

Shirley loved sports and played tennis into her sixties. She could regularly be found attending the local football, volleyball, and tennis games cheering on the Bellville Brahmas long after her own children had graduated. Shirley was a devoted fan of the University of Texas Longhorns and never missed an opportunity to wear burnt orange and cheer on her favorite team. Shirley's competitive spirit was not limited to sports but was also evident in regular bridge games that she played until months before her death.

Over the years, Shirley devoted her time to numerous worthwhile organizations in Bellville including Community Bible Study, Raising Academic Performance, and the Texas Exes Austin County Chapter. She was a founding member of the Bellville Bluebonnet Society of Austin County. Shirley and Bob were awarded the Good Neighbor Award in 2000 by the Bellville Chamber of Commerce in recognition of their service in the community for over fifty years. She and Bob also received the Silver Fawn and Silver Beaver Awards, respectively, considered the highest volunteer honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America.

Shirley was an avid reader and had a deep passion for Texas history. For many years, she sponsored Bellville students visiting the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site and Museum, the site where Stephen F. Austin established a headquarters for his colony in Mexican Texas in 1823. She found it valuable for the students to walk in the footsteps of these early pioneers at what was the social, economic, and political center of American immigration to Texas before its independence.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Robert Babtiste "Bob" Charpiot; her son, David Babtiste Charpiot; and her siblings, Inez Isbell Wright, R.C. Tucker, Jeffrey Tucker, and Johnny Tucker.

She is survived by her eldest son, Robert Alexander Charpiot and wife Janet; her daughter-in-law Lura Ann Charpiot; and her granddaughters, Elizabeth Charpiot Mackie and husband Jonathan; Katie Charpiot Johnston and husband Jeremy; and Natalie Charpiot Manfull and husband Bryan. Shirley is also survived by her adored great grandchildren, William "Hart" Mackie, Blake and Brooklyn Johnston, and Betty Ann and Lucy Manfull along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville. In a final act of generosity, Shirley donated her body to the UT McGovern Medical School for the advancement of science.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to-

Veteran: Vietnam Family- Father: Raymond Lee Chilton Sr, Mother: Vivian Nesmith, Spouse: Linda Sue Adair Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery (A) References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Donald Loran Chilton, 73, died January 12, 2012 at home in Sealy after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1938 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Raymond Lee and Vivian Chilton. While he was a small child, his family relocated and he was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Donald had a memorable childhood growing up during WWII. He had memories of joining his friends in collecting tin cans, bacon drippings, tin foil, and newspapers to help out with the war effort. When he was a little older, he enjoyed sailing, playing football, and running track. After graduating from Ray High School in 1956, he attended Del Mar College where he was the President of his class. After Del Mar, he attended Southwest Texas State and graduated in 1961 with a BS of Business Administration. Donald then joined the Air Force and went on active duty at Lackland AFB and Kelly AFB in San Antonio.

After his service in the Air Force, he moved to Houston where he met Linda Adair. They were married in 1966. Donald enjoyed a long career in industrial paint sales which he enjoyed immensely. He loved to travel in his company car to call on customers, and quickly got a reputation for being dependable and trustworthy. In 1982, Donald moved his family to Sealy, Texas, thinking chiefly of the education of his children, Charley, Joe, and Susie. In 1992, he began a long career with Stewart & Stevenson, Services, Inc. in Sealy, as an engineer. He held many different titles over 19 years, but always loved working on the production of armored vehicles for the U.S. military. He was proud to work there, and loved to talk about his work to anyone who was interested. He just retired from the company, now owned by BAE, in June 2011.

Donald always put his family above all else. He was an attentive father, spending time attending activities and hunting with his sons when they were young, and he never missed a performance by his daughter. In his later years, he enjoyed hunting trips with his son, Charley, and attending Texas A&M football games with his daughter, Susie, along with Linda. Lately, he was content to spend time with his two young grandchildren, Evan and Keeli. He was a voracious reader - he read at least one newspaper every day, and enjoyed reading anything about military history, as well as a good novel. He also enjoyed visiting friends, and faithfully visited several friends who became ill or homebound.

Donald is survived by his wife, Linda Chilton; son, Charley Chilton (Natalie Chilton); daughter, Susie Waits (Chris Waits); brother, Raymond Lee Chilton, Jr. (Ray Chilton); sister, Guida Drew (Jeff Drew); brother, Dana Chilton (Candace Chilton); grandson, Evan Waits; and granddaughter, Keeli Chilton.

Conley, John Calvin (27 Mar 1988 - 24 May 2003)

Family- Father: Ron Conley, Mother: Lilia References: GenFolks

Bellville Times
6-5-3

Funeral services for John Calvin Conley, 15, of Sealy, Texas were held Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 3 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy with Rev. Dr. Rick Ward officiating.

Pallbearers for the service were Nick Hagen, Nathan Naida, Colby Maxwell, Josh Dale, Wesley Krenek, David Brown, Phillip Berlanga, Hunter Hamilton and Jose Picasso.

On March 27, 1988 (Palm Sunday) Ron and Lilia Conley became the parents of an 8 lb. 2 ounce baby boy. He was named after his great grandfather. From the time his Mom went into labor he was raising cane 45 minutes later. "We knew we were going to have our hands full early with this boy," said his parents.

John was fearless, strong, outgoing, good natured, competitive, polite and humorous. Along with these positive traits, he had his faults as all humans do. John moved with his Dad to Sealy in December 1999. With his personality, it didn't take him long to make friends. John and his Dad took a lot of memorable trips together in his short life, Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado.

He really liked the mountains, and was always trying to climb one. In Wyoming, it was all we could do to keep him from skateboarding down one. He liked all kinds of sports; BMX bikes, football, baseball, dirt bikes, paint balling, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and especially skate boarding. Skateboarding was his favorite.

In John's eyes there was never a bad place or a bad time to pull out his skateboard and ride. Virtually everywhere he went with anybody, as soon as the vehicle would stop for gas, food or what ever, out came his skateboard. As irritating as this could be for whoever the adult of that particular excursion was, you couldn't really get mad at him because it was truly John's passion.

In the last year of his life his relationship with his skate boarding friends had really blossomed. There was hardly a day of the week that John was not skating somewhere with one of the crew. John had a great relationship with all of his family but especially with his Dad and Mom. His smiling face and mischievous laugh will be missed.

John Calvin Conley passed away tragically at his home in Sealy on Saturday, May 24, 2003.

Survived by his Dad, Ronald Casey Conley of Sealy and Fiance Marsha Turner of Sealy, Mom, Lilia Moreno Legrande of Conroe and Step-dad Rick Legrande of Conroe, brother Sergio Afre of Conroe, sisters Becky Conley Oldham and husband Jason of Deerpark, Christina Conley Garcia of Katy and Fiance Marty Luffman of Katy, grandparents Pearl Daniels and husband Tom of Houston, Pedro Moreno and wife Amanda of Houston, uncles Robert Corkren and wife Kathryn of Katy, John Corkren of Katy, Pedro Moreno of El Paso, Aunts Kim Barker and husband Gary of Germany, Tammy Jaquet and husband Larry of Spring, Diane Milligan and husband Tim of The Woodlands, Rosa Fink and husband Vinnie of Katy, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

By request of the family, memorial contributions may be sent to Young Life, P.O. Box 520, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80901.

Cook, David Wayne (20 Jan 1952 - 30 Nov 2014)

Family- Father: Robert E Cook, Mother: Margaret Alice Nelson References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Bellville Times

David was born in Houston on January 20, 1952. He was raised in the Mangum-Oak Forest area, and attended Waltrip High School where he was in the ROTC each of his high school years. After graduating in 1970, David went to work for his Dad's company, Cook Equipment, selling tractors. From there, he joined the HPD Academy in 1974. David had always wanted to be a police officer.

As an officer, David patrolled the Oak Forest Mangum Manor area for many years. Along with being a patrolman, he was a Baton Instructor and a Field Training Instructor at the Houston Police Academy. He was also a Paramedic Instructor at San Jacinto Junior College, as David was a certified flight paramedic.

He retired from the police department in 2007, but continued to work as a civilian in the IT department for the Gang Division until 2010. Since then David had been enjoying his time with his wife at their beautiful home they built near Brenham.

From a drawing on paper, David and Jane planned their dream home, which became a reality in July 2010. Once they moved to "the farm" as it is known, he was able to enjoy his favorite pastime of watching movies, especially old westerns and cartoons. He had a collection of over 900 DVDs, that family and friends could "check out" just like at Blockbuster. He literally had a "sign in, sign out" sheet.

Now living at the farm, he was supposed to drive his Mom to her exercise classes and he was supposed to hit the gym as well (the one his mother bought a year's membership for.) But David had a different idea- he found a local coffee shop and rather than hit the gym, he would drop Mom off at her class, and he would frequent the coffee shop and enjoy his foo-foo coffee drink while surfing the internet on his phone. That was David's definition of retirement.

David is preceded in death by his dad, Robert Cook, a sister, Martha Cook, and brother, Tim Cook.

He is survived by his Mother, Margaret Cook, his wife, Jane Cook, his two daughters, Amber Whitt, Amy Oliver and her husband Charles, and his son, Jason Cook. David also has four stepchildren- Stephanie Johnson, Charlie Johnson and his wife Liz, Chris Johnson and his wife Stephanie, and Samantha Wellmeier and her husband Daniel. He is also survived by two sisters Sandy Cook, Norma Hardie and her husband Rob, and their families.Together David and Jane have 9 grandchildren, with the 10th (a granddaughter) due in April. They are Jack and Chad Oliver, Krissy, Katy, Todd, and Kelley Bentley, Talon Sumerford, Nicholas Johnson and Mabel Wellmeier.

David will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. www.knesekfuneralhome.com

Craft, Reid (10 Oct 1921 - 26 Jul 2020)

Family- Father: Kelly Craft, Mother: Dora Hammond, Spouse: Marjorie Lee Risner & Margaret Anna Schembera Cemetery: Wesley Brethren Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Reid Craft, of Baytown, Texas passed away 7/26/2020 at The Waterford of Baytown.

Reid is survived by his daughter Janice Craft, stepdaughters, Marjorie Solley, Barbara Simmons, and Jean Rayhill, sons Stanley Craft and Stephen Craft, stepson George Bordovsky, sister Bess Risner, brother Elmer Craft and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie (mother of Janice, Stanley, and Stephen) who passed away in 1987. Reid then married Margaret Bordovsky (mother of George, Michael, Marjorie, Barbara, Jean) who passed away in 2005. He is also predeceased by his stepson Michael, sisters Eunice Spencer, Bertie Sain, and brother Orville Craft.

Born in the fall of 1921 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Reid was the first child of Kelly and Dora Craft. Being a son and an older brother were his first jobs and he excelled at them. He accumulated many other titles over the years, some short-term and some long- farm boy, soldier, college student, father, engineer, farmer, teacher, writer, and numerous corporate roles.

Reid served in the U.S. Army from August 1942 until December 1945. His training took him to Texas, Arizona, California, and Oregon. He then deployed to England and into France shortly after D-Day. He was with the 15th Cavalry in the fighting through Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland and Central Europe under General Patton. He was also involved with clandestine OSS training operations in England.

After the war, he married his high school sweetheart Marjorie, and resumed his studies at the University of Kentucky. Two sons came along in the next 3 years along with a job at the US Army Signal Corp in Cold Springs, KY. Next came a move to eastern Connecticut where he worked on the development of the first commercially successful jet engine, the Pratt & Whitney JT8D.

While proud of the fact that the JT8D is still in service today, Reid was always far prouder of his daughter Janice who was born while the family was in Connecticut. Missing their extended families in the mid-West, Reid and Marjorie bought a small farm in southern Indiana and Reid began teaching 7th grade at the Johnson Township school. A few years of that, and the family was off to Pasadena, Texas where Reid took a job with Brown & Root Marine Operators. His years there had him working onboard construction barges in the Gulf of Mexico that built offshore oil rigs and then later progressing through the ranks of management in “the Yard” at Green's Bayou.

After 20+ years, Reid retired. Unfortunately, Marjorie became ill and passed away shortly afterwards. Time passed and Reid grew close to a long-time family friend, Margaret Bordovsky. They married in May 1989 and made their home in Livingston, Texas. They spent many years traveling around America sight-seeing and visiting family across the country. The family would like to thank the staff of The Waterford at Baytown for their excellent care and many instances of going above and beyond in the years Reid lived there. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and considered it home for many years.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to worthy veteran assistance organizations.

She first noticed a boy with beautiful blue eyes named Herman Grawunder when Cochran played Bradbury Elementary in baseball. They both attended Bellville High School.

They married on Aug. 22, 1947, and moved to Huntsville to attend Sam Houston State Teachers College. After earning their degrees, they moved back to the Raccoon Bend community, built their house, and raised their family, with Herman's mother and step father, Florence and Ralph Brosig across the road for caring support.

Later she got her kindergarten certification and switched from teaching first grade to kindergarten, beginning by establishing a head start program in Bellville ISD. She loved working with little children, and always had many stories to tell about them.

Nearing retirement, she went back to school again, part-time, to get certified to diagnose and tutor students with dyslexia. After retirement, she tutored students of all ages in her little office overlooking the square in Bellville.

Cryan, Dan "David" (29 Dec 1938 - 27 May 2024)

Family- Father: Kenneth Cryan, Mother: Hildreth, Spouse: #1 Jackie; #2 Jamie Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: GenFolks

Dan "David" Cryan, beloved and trusted father to six children and two step-daughters, "Poppi" to 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, brother, uncle, friend, and husband died peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024, surrounded by family.

David was blessed with tremendous business acumen, which he developed early at St. Thomas Catholic High School in Houston. He put himself through college, all while supporting his young family, and in true David Cryan fashion, he passed the bar exam and received his license to practice law before he actually received his law degree. He ultimately received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston in 1966, the year after he received his license. He was proud of this accomplishment, and despite not practicing law on a regular basis after he moved to Sealy, he continued to keep his law license in good standing for the rest of his life. He also ventured into banking, serving as president of Fidelity Bank and Trust, and later built a successful construction and real estate development company all the while always having his hand in the cattle business. At one point during the late 70s and early 80s, in addition to the ranch in Sealy, he also had large cattle ranches in Reserve, New Mexico, and South Texas.

David was committed to the vitality of Sealy and Austin County, where he has called home since 1971. He developed neighborhoods across the area, which are now homes for a multitude of families. He built a beautiful ranch in the early 1970s and raised cattle, horses, ducks, geese, chickens, guineas, peacocks, whitetail deer, and more. He was an avid hunter in his younger years and loved the outdoors, sunrises, and driving the country roads in his pickup looking at real estate and checking his cattle.

In 2011, he purchased land in Victoria County where he built his beloved Boondock Ranch. He loved spending the weekends there checking the cattle and watching the deer. After he stopped driving, he always wanted to go to Boondock, even if it was only a day trip.

A true man of faith and as a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he oversaw the renovation of the church completed in 2005. Being the chairman of the building committee was one of his proudest accomplishments. He was also the driving force behind developing and building the Jacqueline A. Cryan Memorial Park in Sealy, in memory of his beloved wife of 37 years. He worked tirelessly for several years to make that dream become a reality. The park along with the Irene LeBlanc pool was officially completed and dedicated in May of 2012.

He had a smile that lit up the room and was a definite presence wherever he showed up. David was true to life, soulful, competitive, opinionated, passionate, loving, and generous, and touched the hearts and lives of all who knew him.

Dan David Cryan was born December 29, 1938, to Kenneth and Hildreth Cryan in Houston Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Jamie Cryan; his brother Casey Cryan of Sealy; and step-mother Shirley Cryan.

Children- Leigh Ann McCoy of Austin, Cathy Gips of Austin, Dan Cryan (Rene) of Sealy, Ken Cryan (Trudy) of Sealy, Kirk Cryan (Susan) of Cypress, Stephen Cryan (Amy) of Sealy, Tonya Scott (Randall) of Dallas, and Kelli Vecera (Carter) of Austin.

Grandchildren- Christine Madison, Lauren McCoy, Ashley Cryan, Austin Cryan, AJ Cryan, Trey Cryan, Patrick Cryan, Brett Cryan, Kayleen Moseley, Kendra Fitzhenry, Preston Cryan, Carter Cryan, Emersyn Cryan, Weston Cryan, Harrison Whitzel, Matthew Whitzel, Molly Whitzel, Paul Vecera, and John Vecera, along with 11 great-grandchildren (with one on the way!) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jackie, and sister Loretta.

Cudd, Justin Burk (13 Nov 1991 - 17 Jan 2021)

Family- Father: Jack (Rick) Cudd, Mother: Danette Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Justin Burk Cudd passed away on January 17, 2021 at his home in Katy, TX at the age of 29.Justin was born on November 13, 1991 in Houston, TX to Jack (Rick) and Danette Cudd. He graduated from Katy High School in 2010 and attended University of Houston, Victoria where he played baseball. Justin was a sweet, loving son and best friend to his father and mother. We've lost a shining light in our lives.

Justin was an athlete at heart!! His drive and competitiveness led him to fall in love with baseball at the age of 4. Baseball was his world. He played on traveling tournament teams in elementary and junior high. He achieved a place on the All District First Team for Katy ISD in 2008 and was selected to play for Kyle Chapman Baseball, a highly recruited organization of select baseball programs. He received a partial scholarship and played ball at University of Houston, Victoria. He loved to teach his young cousin, Jakub, batting and throwing techniques. He excelled at any sport with a ball and enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. He won district champion tennis for doubles in 7th grade and singles in 8th grade. He grew up swimming and would regularly win his way into the Meet of Champs where he walked away with medals. He was a lifelong fan of the Astros and Rockets.

Justin was a friend to all. His best friend summed it up “….you were there whenever I called, whether you had somewhere to be or just hanging out. You always looked out for me.”

Justin surrounded himself and others with music. He had such a passion for it. He was in band in Junior High and taught himself to play keyboard as a young adult. The many sessions of Guitar Hero at Aunt Cheryl's undoubtedly influenced his passion. Music was a window into his soul; every song was a poem; every poem was about life. He would share a YouTube link and text the lyrics with a message saying how this was such a beautiful poem. Music was a language to him.

He had a love for books since childhood and absolutely cherished them. He loved to give and receive books. He has every novel and short story that Stephen King wrote. He was beginning to explore and apply Jay Shetty's book about wisdom, inspiration, and purpose. Justin also loved to write and had started several novels over the years. The ones set at the farm are the best! His creative writing professor wanted to send him to a two-week long writer's camp.

Justin had a great sense of humor and could always make you laugh. One summer, Nana and Papa were traveling so the young cousins were on their own. It was lunch time and Wells Fargo Bank was providing a hotdog picnic lunch to members. Justin dressed up in a wig, clown glasses, and shorts with tall socks and rode the 2-seat bike with his cousins to enjoy that lunch. They took many trips on those bikes exploring downtown Katy and the parks.

Cooking was an art for Justin. As a young teen, he would cook an entire meal for his grandparents or cousins' family. He entertained the idea of opening a restaurant. He would joke that sometimes he would be in the weeds while cooking at home! He grilled the best steak! He always said the secret is, “500°, 5 minutes on each side”.

Justin embraced and thrived on social interactions which made him the ideal waiter. His philosophy for work was, “I'm just gonna have fun, make everyone's night twice as good as when they walked in, and let karma take over.” That philosophy always landed him in the top waiter category at each restaurant where he worked. He worked at Red Lobster, Roadhouse, and finally at Chili's. When working for Roadhouse, he won the Christmas Gift Card contest. Justin's tale of one shift captures his generous spirit, “….taught little girl how to line dance because she liked Footloose (I don't know how to line dance)….but I went up front with her, got the host to teach me real quick (I have 2 left feet) then taught her as best as I could and did it with her. What a great moment! Exhiliarating!...I told the Hosts I was just showing someone a good time….give the guest the best experience…”. His time with the Chili's family continued to feed his passion for people. He always had top stats because if he was not #1, he was not happy. He loved when his shift schedule included the dream team and Batman and Robin could save the day. Those were the best days!

Justin is survived by his loving parents. Jack (Rick) Cudd and Danette Cudd; sister, Kayla Cudd; grandmother, Doris Bretschneider; uncle, Danny Bretschneider (Kelly); aunts, Cheryl Spivey and Sharon Cudd; cousins, J.D. Spivey IV, Stephen Spivey (Azia), Ryan Bretschneider, Michelle Young (Ryan), Jessica Carey, Macy Bretschneider-Winkler (Joe), Katelyn Spivey; Jakub (Stephen & Azia), Jax (Michelle & Ryan), and Ryker (Katelyn); Red the college cat; and numerous other family and friends.

Justin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Cudd III, Betty Cudd, Charles Bretschneider, and cat, Tabitha.

We will miss him more than words can say. “College Cat”, Red, looks for him every day.

Justin was a bright, shining star in this crazy world. His sense of humor kept us all sane. Although he may no longer walk with us, his love of life will be a beacon that continues to shine and give us hope.

Visitation will be Monday, January 25th, 5-7 pm at Knesek Bros. Highway 36 Funeral Chapel, 1140 Meyer Street, Sealy, TX. The funeral service will be held at Knesek Bros. Highway 36 Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 26th, at 11 am. Brother Mike Groseclose will be officiating, with a graveside service immediately following.

The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation for the generous outpouring of love and support from family, friends, co-workers, and employers.
