Pappas, Efrosini "Effie" (Wynakos) (21 Jun 1944 - 1 Oct 2024)

Family- Father: Ed Wynakos, Mother: Beryle, Spouse: Angelo Pappas,, Children: Marina Pappas, Elizabeth Hunt, Deanie Pappas Cemetery: Oak Knoll Cemetery References: GenFolks

Effie (Efrosini), Age 80, passed away peacefully on October 01, 2024, in Brenham, Texas. Born in Aegion, Greece on June 21, 1944. Effie lived in Aegion with her family when at the age of 5 years old her father immigrated to the United States in 1949. For 8 years Effie lived with her Papou, Yiayia, and many adoring Thea’s (and Theo’s) in Aegion. And then in May of 1957, 13-year-old Effie boarded a plane in Athens and made her way, via New York City, to her new home in Ballard, Washington, reuniting with her dad and new mom. She traveled for two days by herself, not knowing any English.

Effie attended Ballard High from 1958 to 1962, where she was a member of the Ballard Drill Team marching in parades and events around the Northwest. Effie also worked at the Seattle Worlds Fair in 1962. Effie loved her many trips to California to visit Grandpa Oscar, Grandma Vi, and Disneyland. After graduating Effie met Angelo Pappas, “Lucky”, who was stationed at Fort Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, Washington upon his discharge, he and Effie were married in August of 1966 in Chicago. A true “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” at least reception-wise. Effie and Lucky were married for 46 years when Lucky stepped into eternity, devastating Effie…she loved how Lucky would always be cracking jokes, singing, and loving on her…he was the love of her life.

While living in Chicago Effie and Lucky welcomed into the world Marina (Rena), Elizabeth (Ellie), and Constatine (Deanie)…this family is one with the nicknames…Effie was lovingly called Fefe often by Rena…she would always laugh. Effie loved to laugh. Another monumental life event for Effie, besides giving birth 3 times, was playing a huge role in helping her dad and sister Maria reunite at her home in Houston after not seeing each other for over 28 years. Not a dry eye in Texas for weeks.

Effie had a great ability to make others feel special and was always interested in what was going on in their life. She loved to take and share pictures, especially for birthdays and anniversaries…she had the best cursive handwriting…so elegant, reflecting how she always dressed too, rare a day without her “face-on”. Effie worked in various roles throughout her time in Chicago and Texas, publicity for Ninfas Restaurants in Houston, and Accounting/HR for her brother-in-law’s bakery in Chicago, she was so well regarded and loved.

Equally, Effie loved her family, friends, especially her grandkids, Jacob and Macy…and then two great-grandchildren, Lorali and Finn. Effie loved the Lord Jesus and grew to understand that His love for her was unconditional and ever-faithful. Effie agreed in her heart what the Apostal Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:8-10, that it is by God’s grace alone we have salvation, through Jesus…”For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Effie often prayed that her family and friends would know this grace from God alone…quicken your hearts to His truth and gift of salvation.

Efrosine, Effie, Fefe, Mama, Yiayia, and Thea, will be greatly missed and is survived by her children:

Marina Pappas, Elizabeth Hunt, her grandchildren, Jacob (Macy) Hunt and Casey Hunt, and 2 great-grandchildren, Loralie Efrosine Hunt and Finn Hunt.

She is also survived by her siblings, Michael (Cindy) Wynakos, Stacy Smalls, Jennie (Jay) Lorenz, and many loving nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Greece.

Effie was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Pappas, son, Deanie Pappas, her dad, Ed Wynakos, and mom, Beryle Wynakos and sister, Maria Vergonet.

Peschel, Willroy "Tiny" (19 Dec 1934 - 18 Jul 2024)

Family- Father: Willie Peschel, Mother: Emilie Hegemeyer, Spouse: Peggy Joyce Maresh, Children: William Roy Peschel, Wayne Allen Peschel, Susan Beth Peschel, Shelley Ann Harkey Cemetery: National Cemetery References: GenFolks

Willroy “Tiny” Peschel was born December 19, 1934, in Nelsonville, Texas, and was called by Our Heavenly Father to a grand homecoming celebration on July 18, 2024.

Willroy attended school in Nelsonville until 8th grade and then he decided it was time to go to work. He worked the home place in Nelsonville farming and taking care of the livestock. On September 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce (Maresh) Peschel, in Nelsonville at The Nelsonville Brethren Church with Reverend Henry Beseda officiating.

Willroy and Peggy made their first home in Bellville, Texas. They happily welcomed four children into this world. In 1979 they built their dream home in Oak Hill, Texas where they spent the rest of their lives devoted to the family they made that kept growing.

Their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were their world, and they were always proud of their accomplishments no matter how big or small.

Willroy worked from sun up until sun down to provide for his family. His first job was at a gas station in Racoon Bend Texas. After marrying Peggy, he started at San Bernard Electric Cooperative. After, he would then go to his second job in the evenings and on weekends trimming trees. Willroy loved his time at San Bernard Electric and everyone he had the pleasure of working with for 40 years. This is where he received the nickname “Tiny.”

Willroy enjoyed dancing the night away with Peggy, gardening, canning his locally known and famous “Papa Tiny Pickles,” and coaching little league. He was very active in and attended Nelsonville Brethren Church where he served as an elder for many years. He also spent much time mowing, raking, and baling hay, helping his children raise show pigs, serving on the Austin County Fair Committee by working the Market Barrow Show every year on Wednesday and working the youth auction sale gate every year on Friday for many years at The Austin County Fair. He enjoyed with a passion attending his children and grandchildren’s school events, athletics, band, and whatever they were involved in, and still attended Bellville High School football games regularly.

Willroy loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which if you attended the Four County Auction Sale on Tuesdays you’d often see him and his little herd of grandchildren there with him because they all wanted to go to the auction with “Papa Tiny.”

Willroy worked hard all of his life and never skipped a beat. He loved his family with that same passion and will be greatly missed by anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him. Willroy is survived by his children, William Roy Peschel and wife Bonnie, Wayne Allen Peschel and wife Karen, Susan Beth Peschel and Shelley Ann Peschel Harkey.

Grandchildren, Rebecca Lea (Peschel) Luedke and husband Brandon, Sarah Jo (Peschel) Zapalac and husband Mark, Hunter Lee Macik, Brittany Beth Macik and fiance Cody Bennett, Rebecca Noska, Kaylynn Ann Harkey and fiance Garrett Kunetka, Maggie Jae Harkey, Kyle Allen Peschel, Carson Wayne Peschel, Joshua Ryan Peschel and Cody James Harkey.

Peterson, Tabetha Ann "Tabby" (Warren) (10 Oct 1972 - 15 Dec 2024)

Family- Father: William Warren, Mother: Cheryl Drake, Spouse: Vance Peterson References: GenFolks

Tabetha Ann (Warren) Peterson

On December 15, 2024, the world lost “Tabby”, an incredible individual. Tabby was born October 10, 1972, to Cheryl (Drake) and William Warren in Houston, Texas. She attended Elrod and Alexander Elementary Schools, Fondren Middle School, and Westbury Senior High School -all in Houston. She held several jobs at places such as Arby’s, Taco Bell, Baskin Robbins, and OSI Collections before becoming a veterinary technician in Houston. It was in 2001 that she joined the Houston Police Department as a night shift stable attendant, working at the HPD Mounted Patrol Headquarters. She was later transferred to the HPD Westside Command station where she continued working on the night shift as a Data Entry Operator. She would later start clearing low-priority calls over the phone for the night shift dispatchers, thus keeping patrol officers in the call-for-service loop. Indeed, she excelled at this and enjoyed her job very much.

She was passionate about The Renaissance and Renaissance Faires. She attended the Texas Renaissance Festival for over 30 years, for which she would always “don her garb”. She was one of the original members of the “Red Star” and “Chaos” guilds, and regularly attended the Texas Renaissance Festival where she obtained her “faire name” of “TabbyCat”. Upon the dissolution of Red Star, she became a member of “The Claw” guild. At the Sherwood Forest Faire, near Austin, she became known as “The Peacock Lady” for her ornate dress she sometimes wore that contained over 1000 peacock feathers-which she had designed and spent almost a year making. She had most recently taken up archery and was planning on competing at the Sherwood Forest Faire in March 2025.

It is an understatement to say that Tabby was a genius at creativity. She most enjoyed making items out of resin, painting, drawing, wood burning, designing/sewing Renaissance dresses and headpieces, beading, and leatherwork. Perhaps her greatest skill in all this is that she was able to turn the most mundane of objects into works of art. Truly, she often saw beauty where others saw nothing.

Perhaps her greatest love was as a “Foster Mom” for CAPS (Citizens for Animal Protection Services) in Houston. She specialized in raising neo-natal kittens and was called upon numerous times to try to save them. Very rarely would Tabby turn them down (and many times she would drop everything to run to the rescue). Tending to her “fur babies” gave her so much joy. It’s estimated that in her 9+ years as a “foster mom” for CAPS, she attended to over 100 kittens- the vast majority neo-natal.

Tabby also enjoyed camping, fishing, and ocean cruises -and had most recently taken her biggest one: a two-week trip around the British Isles. She even had a New Year’s cruise planned, but it simply wasn’t to be.

She leaves behind her husband, Vance; Her Mother and stepfather; her sister, Tina; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; 3 step-children; 2 Grandchildren; 6 cats (especially Archimedes, her favorite); and many friends.

A “Celebration of Life” is pending. In lieu of flowers or gifts, she had requested that donations in her name be sent to CAPS (17555 Katy Fwy. Houston, TX 77094 or www.cap4pets.org).

Jimmie L. Pfeffer, age 92, passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, with his children at his side, in his room, in his bed calling the shots; it was his way. Yes, he loved Sinatra's music, and Jim was always doing it his way.

A German share cropper's son from Blyberville, Texas, to a man in constant motion, traveling the world in his planes, he lived the American Dream and loved every minute of it. From Presidents of countries to the insurance agency he led, 2800 agents spread across all 50 states and 13 countries; everyone looked forward to seeing, as many called him "Mr. P". It was a full life.

Born June 8, 1929 in Blyberville, Texas Jim Enlisted in the Army Air Corps at 17 to get into WWII and missed it. He transferred to the newly formed Air Force and then saw action in Korea as a forward air controller, squadron leader and was recognized with the Bronze Star & Distinguished Service Medal. Jim served and saw action in Vietnam as well doing exemplary intelligence work to expose the Russian involvement. During his tour of duty in the Far East which stretched over 5 years, he became a scratch golfer, a 33rd degree mason of the Philippine Masonic Lodge, as well as a Shriner and finished up doing intelligence work for the NSA.

He truly enjoyed living all over the world; the Far East, Europe, Japan.

He retired from the Air Force at 38 as a Chief Master Sargent at Kelly AFB in San Antonio.

Then "Mr. P", took on the task of growing and making the Non Commissioned Officers Association the best it could be, when he started at the NCOA there were 10,000 members and when he handed off the reins to Jim Duncan there were over 150,000 members which eventually grew to over 350,000. He strongly believed in the NCOA motto Strength in Unity and worked at it every day.

He then took on the task of growing the companies that provided the benefits to the NCOA members Ammest Services and Academy Life insurance company, which grew tremendously with him and his partners at the helm.

Hold them close while they are here it goes too fast . . .

He is preceded in death by parents, Edward and Rosie Louise Pfeffer. Helen Geneva Pfeffer (Wife) Steven Michael Pfeffer (Son), Nancy Sue Coffman Pfeffer (Daughter in law), and Michelle Denise Pfeffer (wife).

Pfeffer, Milton Lee (20 May 1932 - 3 Oct 2013)

USFlag

Veteran: Korea, CPL, US Army Family- Father: Wesley Pfeffer, Mother: Erline Brast Cemetery: 1861 Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Bellville Times

Milton Lee Pfeffer was born to Wesley William Pfeffer and Eline Brast Pfeffer on May 20, 1932, on the Pfeffer homestead in Bellville. Following work, the family later moved to both Simonton and Rosenberg, before they returned to Bellville and settled near the old homestead.

Milton was baptized with his brother, Wilford, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville by Pastor A. W. Weber on March 16, 1946. He was a member at St. John Lutheran where he had served as an usher in his younger years. He attended both the Bradbury and Piney Schools before attending Bellville High School. Six months prior to graduation, Milton, growing evermore unimpressed that Bellville High School did not compensate students to attend, quit and found various handyman and construction related jobs. However, he never considered high school a total waste. It was there he found his high school sweetheart, Carole Jane Brandt, who he married on June 24, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church. He carried her Senior picture in his wallet until the day he died.

Milton was drafted into the United States Army and stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso as the Korean War drew to an end. Milton and Carole lived in El Paso throughout Milton's service in the Army. He quickly made the rank of Corporal, by ensuring communications were functioning properly, racing hot rods, and fighting the “Battle of El Paso,” as he and friends would joke.

After his time in the service, Milton and Carole returned to Bellville to live with his brother, Wilford and wife, Gloria, while the two built their home on South Oak Street. Milton resumed work in construction and completed his GED. In his spare time, he attended Blinn Junior College where he learned the skills necessary to become both a licensed electrician and Bellville's City Electrician.

Milton later branched out and started his own company, Pfeffer Electric. He could fix or wire just about anything. Milton never had much of a need for the modern luxuries of fancy meters to check voltage. He always believed a wet finger with some spit on it was a far more reliable method of telling whether a wire was hot. His projects ranged from the Christmas lights on the city's water tower and court house to Barry Galloway's (later Red Adair's) dance hall and saloon to countless homes across Bellville. In fact, the lights we are all sitting under in this building today are a shining example of Milton's quality of work. What is less evident is the steep discount he gave a young family starting out, which shows his passion for helping his family and others.

Milton loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Family fishing trips to Matagorda in a station wagon or the old Scout International inspired in his youngest daughter, Jan, a lifelong passion for fishing. Sunday drives looking for deer and other animals, inspired a love of hunting in his oldest daughter, Donna.

Some of both Milton's and his grandson's fondest memories were made as he taught them to hunt, fish and camp at the “Pasture.” To his grandsons “Popo” was one of the toughest men they have ever met, but there is no question he had a soft spot in his heart for them. Popo would often put his own work second, because nothing was more important to him than making sure his grandsons knew how to properly ride on the bumper of his pickup or feed the catfish. He also never thought twice about giving the squirrel he planned on eating a proper burial to stop their tears or watching the big buck's tail flag as it crossed the fence because the boys thought they needed a better look at him than he did. But, he also loved reminding them of those two times long into their adult lives.

Milton enjoyed drinking beer and playing dominos at the Burleigh Store, cooking stews, frying fish, and, for a number of years, cooking at the Sheriff's BBQ for law enforcement officers. He loved to hate his cattle, while he had them, and liked shooting pool with the Wednesday Night group in Brookshire, but could somehow only remember the games he won.

The final 4½ years of Milton's life he lived in Brookshire with his daughter Donna, and her husband, Wayne. He loved their dogs and cats, and they loved him, but only fed them because “someone had to.” He also loved getting to know his four great grandsons and was more proud of them than he was his Smith & Wesson .44 magnum.

Milton is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley William Pfeffer and Eline Brast Pfeffer, his wife of 58 years, Carole, his son-in-law, Steve Schmidt, and sister-in-law, Linda Brandt.

He is survived by his daughters Donna Schmidt Fricke and husband, Wayne, of Brookshire, Jan Barnett and husband, Jack, of La Porte; grandsons Steven Schmidt and wife, Dawn, of Weatherford, OK, Ryan Schmidt and wife, Jessica, of San Antonio; great grandsons Tyler Schmidt, Blake Schmidt, Cade Schmidt and Hudson Schmidt; brother Wilford Pfeffer and wife, Gloria, of Bellville; aunt Gladys Pfeffer of Bellville; sister-in-law- Jewel Fay Fontenot of Bellville; brother-in-law Glenn Brandt and wife, Jeannie, of Bellville, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family received friends 5-7 p.m.., Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville.

A Funeral Service was held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Schwertlich officiating.

He grew up on a horse, breaking many in his lifetime, with Dee being his favorite. He spent countless hours working cattle and tending to his farms. He always said- “I'm going to the bottom to check cows.”

Bobby enjoyed being outside. He enjoyed fishing, BBQing the best chicken EVER on his homemade washing machine BBQ pit, and hunting with his dear friend Jerry Hanson. He attended as many cattle auctions as he could. He was never one to sit still. Every morning, he would visit the “guys” at Riverside Tire Center, and every evening, he would enjoy an ice-cold beer or two, sometimes with his buddy Rudy Fotajsek.

Phillips, John, III (27 Jul 1936 - 14 Apr 2013)

Family- Father: John E, Phillips Jr., Mother: Patricia Caldwell, Spouse: Patricia Jackoskie Jones References: GenFolks

Bellville Times

John Phillips III went to heaven April 14, 2013 in Houston, Texas, after a brief battle with liver cancer. John was born July 27, 1936 to John E, Phillips Jr. and Patricia Caldwell Phillips. He was born in Waco, Texas, where as a young man he enjoyed car racing and competing in the Regional Golden Glove Boxing Tournaments. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and earned a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from Baylor University. John started his career with Crawford & Company in Houston and was there for nine years before being transferred to the Virgin Islands. He eventually opened his own firm, “Caribbean Claims Services.” John enjoyed 22 exciting years of island life. His love of people and animals and his sense of humor was know island wide, and his love of the water had him sailing from island to island on the weekends on his boat, Papillion. John worked just as hard as he played. He was a true entrepreneur with an industrious, hard working spirit. He even rebuilt his home overlooking Magen's Bay after surviving Hurricane Hugo in 1989. But after Hurricane Hortense in 1991, he gave up island life for country life, and bought a farm in Bellville, Texas to be closer to his sons and grandchildren. He began helping other victims of hurricanes and natural disasters through his work at FEMA. Transitioning from island life to country life in Bellville proved easy enough, as he enjoyed growing a garden, cutting hay, and being a part of the Historical Society's Friday night socials. John appreciated living his last years in the Bellville Community.

John loved his life on the pavement as much as he did the water. Harley Davidsons and old cars were his favorite. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and going to car shows with his sons and taking his grandchildren for rides in his 1932 Ford Roadster. He was a member of the Houston Roadsters Hot Rod Club. John loved anything with wheels.

Whether on the water, the pavement, the ski slopes, or in the air flying planes, John's adventurous spirit, quick wit and charming blue eyes will be remembered by the many friends he collected throughout his life.

John is preceded in death by his son, John Emery, affectionately known as “Little John,” brother, E.B. (Butch), and his parents.

He is survived by his ex-wife Patricia Jackoskie Jones, son William (Bill) T. Phillips and grandchildren, Travis, Tara and Dianna Phillips. “Papa John” loved them very much.

“Johnny” will be greatly missed by his friend of more than 40 years and his loving companion for more than 20, Amy Linton. He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, Delaney, Darcey, Lynn and Donny Holender and feel blessed and honored for the loving role he played in their lives.

A Memorial Service celebrating John's life was held at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055 on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in the name of John E. Phillips

After retirement, Allene stayed busy with gardening, traveling, hosting family get-togethers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Allene volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary Resale Shop, sang in the Concordia Gesang-Verein German singing group, and was involved with the Altar Guild and Martha Circle at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Preibisch, Emily Alice (Pulos) (26 Nov 1917 - 29 Jul 2022)

USFlag

Veteran: WW2, ENS, US Navy, Nurse Corps Family- Father: Alex Pulos, Mother: Josephine Silva, Spouse: Melvin Adolphus Preibisch Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Emily Pulos Preibisch passed away at Colonial Living and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Sealy, Texas on July 29, 2022 at the age of 104. Emily was born on November 26, 1917 in Brockton, MA to Alex and Josephine (Silva) Pulos. She graduated from Carny Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA in 1940. Upon graduation, Emily was hired to supervise a surgical floor at the same hospital. After one year, she was hired as Operation Nurse for Cory Hill Hospital with Lahey Clinic surgeons.

In 1942, when her only sibling, Arthur Pulos, was drafted into the U. S. Army, Emily enlisted as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corp. Her concern was that there would not be enough nurses to treat the wounded. She was first stationed at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston, MA. The hospital received wounded military personnel brought in by ship. In 1943, she was transferred to Norfolk Naval Training Station in Norfolk, VA. It was at the Norfolk Training Station that she met her future husband, Melvin Preibisch, a Chief Specialist in charge of training new recruits.

Melvin and Emily were married on September 30, 1944. Navy rules did not allow Navy nurses to serve after they were married. Emily resigned from the Navy, and in 1945, Emily and Melvin moved to Sealy, TX, her husband's hometown. The unlighted dirt streets were a stark contrast to the bustling life of Boston, and she questioned her decision to leave Boston. However, during the first week in Sealy, Emily was hired to take charge of a 13-bed hospital run by Dr. W. Hover and Dr. V. Gordon. She resigned after one year due to pregnancy.

On November 11, 1946, daughter Martha Marie was born. Martha Marie passed away four months later on March 13, 1947 due to spina bifida. Two years later, daughter Donna was born. During the next 18 years, Emily was the best stay-at-home mom for her husband and Donna. Emily kept an immaculate home, and a weekday noon meal was prepared for Melvin and Donna. Melvin came home from the family furniture store, and Donna walked home across a vacant lot from the Catholic school. Emily was always willing to help the nuns that were assigned to Sealy's Catholic church and school. She was a member of the PTA and, as Health Chairman, coordinated the Catholic school's health days. When Donna entered Sealy Public School in the 8th grade, Emily became a chauffeur for band and basketball extracurricular activities. You could always count on Emily being at the bus stop at night after band and basketball road trips. The Main Street home always welcomed Donna's friends.

In 1968, Emily returned to work as a Director of Nurses at Azalea Manor Nursing Home in Sealy. Azalea Manor was a 35-bed facility that had increased to 95 beds when she retired in 1985. After retiring from Azalea Manor, Emily focused on Preibisch Furniture Store located on Fowlkes St. in Sealy. She eventually closed the store due to Melvin's death in 1980.

Emily was a proud member of The American Legion Post 442. She loved her country and the American Flag. Emily is a Charter Member of the Women's Memorial Foundation. The Women's Memorial is the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery. She is also a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Josephine; first daughter, Martha Marie; husband, Melvin; brother, Arthur and his wife, Barbara; and nieces, Barbara Pulos and Karen Clifford.

Emily is survived by daughter, Donna Preibisch and her special person and partner, Keith Oliver; nephews, Mark Pulos (Melanie), Stephen Pulos (Penny), Ron Pulos; niece, Doreen Lynch (Bob), and Paul Clifford. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.

Emily was thankful for many things-
"God blessed me with a beautiful and precious daughter."
"God gave me a good husband. "
"Thankful for my warm and comfortable home."
"Thankful that God has blessed me with a healthy body and good mind."
"Faith in God and in His good work"
"My belief that God will guide and protect us always"
"Thankful for my friends and neighbors. "
"Thankful I can laugh and enjoy a good joke."
"Thankful for my long and interesting life."

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 9-30 AM until 10-30 AM at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 Fourth St., Sealy, Texas 77474. A funeral mass will be held at 10-30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Legion Post 422, P.O. Box 2, Sealy, Texas 77474, or to a charity of your choice.

Martha Jean Daniel Prochaska was born November 19, 1949, and passed away June 28, 2024.

Martha was born in East Bernard, Texas, and was the third child of James Clay Daniel, Sr. and Mary Ann Seydler Daniel.

Martha grew up in East Bernard where she attended East Bernard public school. She graduated from East Bernard High School as valedictorian in 1967. Additionally, she won the D.A.R. Award and served in a number of organizations, including as a Senior Officer and in the FHA, Spanish Club, Math Club, and Press Club Co-Editor. She also played first chair trumpet in the band, was a cheerleader, and was a member of the Pep Squad, Student Council, and Tennis team. She was honored to have earned several accomplishments and recognitions, including being named Band Sweetheart, a Homecoming Nominee, State FHA awardee, State Chorus Member, and achieving wins in UIL Typing, Senior Play, Stage Band, and was named both Most Dependable and Most Intelligent by her classmates. She also developed a number of deeply cherished lifelong friendships among her classmates. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Joe Prochaska.

She went on to attend college at Sam Houston State University, where she majored in math and graduated with honors in only 3 years.

After college, she married Joe Prochaska on June 27, 1970, in East Bernard. They moved to La Porte, Texas, where they both taught – Joe teaching Industrial Arts and Martha teaching High School Math.

After two years of teaching, Joe was drafted into the US Army, and she followed Joe to his station in Seoul, Korea, for just over a year, where Martha taught GED classes. They then returned to East Bernard, where, initially, Martha took time off to raise her three sons, who were the absolute delight of her life. They all went on to marry three amazing ladies whom she welcomed as beloved daughters into her family.

In 1986, Martha resumed teaching at East Bernard High School, where she taught for 27 years. During Martha’s career, she taught Geometry, Algebra 1, and Calculus, and she was a state-level UIL award-winning Number Sense coach and the cheerleading sponsor. However, she was most proud of the countless students she taught, mentored, and impacted during her career as an educator. Martha retired from teaching in 2012 after 27 wonderful years.

She joyfully welcomed five grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. She was always invested in every interest they developed and loved spending as much time with each of them as she could.

Martha had a vibrant personality and an incredible sense of humor. Her smile was infectious, and those who knew her could not help but love her. She was an avid sports fan, always supporting her Houston teams, as well as the Aggies, Bearcats, East Bernard Brahmas, and Brahmarettes. Additionally, she was a very dedicated fan of General Hospital.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents James Clay “Jimmy” Daniel, Sr. and Mary Ann Seydler Daniel, and her sister Judy Daniel Lane.

Purcell, Matthew Glenn "Matt" (2 Dec 1965 - 10 Jun 2013)

Family- Father: Richard Purcell, Mother: Carol Lee Poush References: Findagrave, GenFolks

On June 10, 2013, Matthew "Matt" Glenn Purcell, 47, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, receiving the peace he had longed for in his short life. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013, Bellville, Texas First United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by Jack Meeker, Teaching Pastor, Cowboy Church, Brenham Texas. Matt suffered from severe Scoliosis for most of his life.

His body will be cremated and his ashes will be buried on the grave of his dearest Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert at Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca, Texas.

Matt was born in Lubbock, Texas and grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, in a big house poised on the banks of Oyster Creek. As a child, he and his special boyhood pals spent 1000's of hours swimming, canoeing, fishing, in those waters. He would have to forced to come in when it got dark, and it did not matter the weather was hot, cold, pouring rain, or dry. Matt's greatest joys in life were the people and places that allowed him to spend as much time outdoors as humanly possible. He signed his letters, notes and texts with "Woods'n Water" because that was what he loved most. His vacations and week-ends were spent either fishing or hunting, or both. Matt learned to fish when just a toddler with his Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert at Lake Stamford and the Llano River, and he eagerly awaited the many trips he would make with his family from Lake Jackson to west Texas and the Llano, year after year.

Long after the years of his youth, he continued his treks to the Llano and west Texas at every opportunity. Matt's laughs, though infrequent, were so distinctive that when you heard them, you knew they were genuine and heartfelt. Matt had a genuinely sweet and gentle nature and an unconditional love for his family and friends.

Matt graduated from Lake Jackson, Texas Brazoswood High School in 1984. He studied Air Conditioning and Electrical skills at Kilgore College, receiving his certification in 1988. He worked for the Brenham Independent School District for the last 13 years. Matt was a member of and baptized in the Cowboy Church, Brenham Texas.

Matt was preceded in death by his beloved Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert Bell; grandmother, "Gran Betty" Grimes; grandfather, Will H. Grimes; grandparents, Glenn and Mary Ellen Purcell, of Houston; and his best, four-legged friend, Claudia, for whom he mourned the rest of his life.

Worth, Gayle Hutchison, of Stamford, and Gaye Harkins, of Chappel Hill; cousins from Clyde, Texas, Ira Sue Bell, Jane and Ted Dement, and June and Ernest Park; all the Dement and Park children; and cousins, Ted Riggs and Melanie Holton.
