Janda, Diane Kaye (Hluchan) (24 Jul 1943 - 19 Mar 2018)

Family- Father: Louis John Hluchan, Mother: Evelyn “Puttie” Keding, Spouse: Jerry Janda Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

The Sealy News, March 22, 2018-

Diane Kaye Janda passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Houston with her husband and children by her side. She was a loving mom to her three boys, the best Granny to her four grandchildren, and a devoted wife to her husband Jerry for more than 53 years. Diane was 74 years old and a lifelong resident of Sealy, the small town she loved dearly.

Diane was born July 24, 1943 in Sealy, TX to parents Louis and Evelyn Hluchan. She attended Sealy public schools and graduated in 1961. "Duck", as she was affectionately known by her husband and close friends, was active in many school organizations and played volleyball, basketball and tennis. She graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Blinn College in 1963.

Diane met Jerry in 1958 and the two started dating soon after. She married her high school sweetheart on May 3, 1964 and they continued to be by each other's side for the remainder of her life. The two built a life together in their hometown of Sealy, TX. Hard work and dedication helped them to build the house of their dreams in 1969. It was in this same home that they raised their three boys Chris, Brett, and Mark and where she continued to live for almost 50 years. The family celebrated many birthdays and enjoyed Christmas gatherings and dinners which were organized and cooked by Diane to show her love for her family and friends.

As a young woman, Diane held bookkeeping positions at Ewens Buick Chevrolet of Sealy and the Galloway car dealership in Bellville. She spent the next several years raising her three young boys while serving as co-owner of the Gum Drop Tree Day Care Center. Here she welcomed many of Sealy's very own children into their doors to begin their early years. She continued her love for working with kids as a library aide at Sealy ISD. The students at school grew to love their visits with Mrs. Janda in the library. She could be found cheering these same students on at sporting events and extracurricular activities. Aside from serving at Sealy ISD, Diane volunteered at sporting events, her kids' and grandkids' school activities, and was a member of Catholic Daughters for over 50 years. She and Jerry were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Sealy.

Diane was a devoted wife and loving mother who raised three sons to be good Christians and model citizens. She supported and attended every activity her boys ever participated in, and she showed this same support for her grandchildren. Granny tried not to miss any event that Zach, Morgan, Cailyn or Chace were part of. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Diane enjoyed many hobbies including reading and gardening. She loved to take long country rides with Jerry and Friday night Mexican food dinners with friends. Her love for travel extended to road trips across much of the U.S. through family vacations. She visited much of the United States, all without ever setting foot on an airplane. Summer vacations were often spent at the lake or beach with family and friends. She enjoyed canning and pickling fresh local produce each spring. She made some of the best pickles in town!

Diane is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry Janda; her beloved children and grandchildren- Chris and his wife Theresa and their children Zach & Morgan of Katy; Brett and Renee and their children Cailyn and Chace of Katy, and Mark and Brent Grelle of Houston. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Ekarius and husband Charles; brother Bubba Hluchan and wife Evelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Evelyn Hluchan and step-father Woodrow Hluchan.

Jennings, Ariah Lynn (19 Mar 2017 - 3 Apr 2024)

Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Ariah was born on March 19, 2017, in Galveston, Texas. She loved to spend time with her family. She loved to dance, take pictures and had a sassiness to her that made everyone smile. Ariah was very adventurous. She loved riding all the rides at Six Flags, riding her bike, playing with her Barbies, bowling, arcade games, cheerleading, and bossing everyone around!

She was her mother's twin; she was a girlie girl with a little bit of tomboy in her too! She adored her brother Amari, her partner in mischief, and her best friend. Together they shared an unbreakable bond, their laughter echoing through the halls of their home and school.

Ariah's teachers fondly remember her as a ray of sunshine, spreading warmth with every hug she bestowed. Her love knew no bounds, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her time with us was far too short, Ariah's legacy of love and kindness will endure for eternity.

As we bid farewell well to our beloved Ariah, we find solace in knowing that she now rests in the loving embrace of the Lord. Though her physical presence may be gone, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. May we honor her memory by carrying forth her legacy of love, laughter, and boundless joy.

Rest in peace, sweet Ariah. Your light will shine forever bright in our hearts.

Mathew 19-14 But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven".

Matthew 5-4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted".

Bellville Times

Sam A. Johnson, 89, of Sealy, who had the heart of a champion…..a son of a preacher-man…with hard skills and work determination, was born Jan. 29, 1925, in a little church in Humble. Sam Johnson left this world at 9-39 am Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014, in Houston, to return to heaven and was joined with his beloved wife Mary Jo and his family circle in the sky.

His parents, brother O.D. Johnson and Tillie Marie Johnson were leaders in the Pentecostal revival movement of the 1920's, and survived difficult times of the depression by hard work, the grace of God and determination. The family constructed by hand, from the bark up, a log home “out in the country” in what is now east Houston. Everybody worked, but big brother Sam led the team. From milking the family cows to an extra part time job as a golf caddy at Texaco Country Club, Sam and his brother, Nat not only worked their way up the ladder of success, they built the ladder. Sam graduated from Humble High School and was accepted into the University of Texas (class of 1946) where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Business. Sam served in the Navy during the Second World War, obtaining the rank Apprentice Seaman. He then returned to Houston to pursue his career.

From the golf business to the building and real estate business, Sam forged leadership and relationships that helped steer the course of Houston homebuilding and development. He entered the building business in Houston in 1952. He was a part of the development of the Meyerland and Memorial area, founded the Tri County Title Company, and was part of the development of the Champion Golf Course. Sam received two Parade of Homes awards and in 1962 was made Chairman of the Custom Builders' Committee of the Houston Home Builders. He was a member of the National, the Texas and the Houston Home Builders' Associations. He was the owner of The Real Estate Company in Sealy at the time of his death.

Family and friends adored him; unscrupulous foes feared and respected him. He adopted and mentored many, was a visionary who blazed trails and guided and gave back. On the back nine of his life, to God be the glory, he returned to his roots via the Christian City Fellowship Church.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22-6

Sam is preceded in death by- parents O.D. Johnson and Tillie Marie Johnson, wife Mary Jo Johnson, brother Nat Johnson, sister Rachel Curlee, children Bruce Johnson and Cindy Johnson.

He is survived by sister- Anna Cannon Rabb; nephews and niece Gordon Scheele and Stephen Johnson, and Stasa Cushman; numerous grand, great-grand, great-great-grand nieces and nephews; adopted daughter and sons; Nelly Flores, Corky Flores and Gary Chaney; adopted loved ones- Pastor Rusty Griffin, J.D. Divin and more and more and more…

“Well done good and faithful servant …..Enter into the joy of my rest” Matt. 25-21

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., on Thursday June 26, 2014, from the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville.

Funeral service were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday June 27, 2014, from the Christian City Fellowship Church, 5243 Hwy 36, Sealy, with Pastor Rusty Griffin officiating.

Veteran: Korea, PFC, US Army, 1951-53, 24th Infantry 105 Art. C Batt. Family- Father: Lee Roy Jones Sr, Mother: Rosa Lee Vanhowten, Spouse: Waldine Schiller Cemetery: Millheim Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks

Funeral services for Lee Roy Jones, Jr., 80, of Sealy, Texas, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, 768 Fourth St., Sealy, Texas 77474 with Rev. Becky Downs officiating. Interment in Millheim Cemetery.

Pallbears for the service are his nephews, Gordon Goebel, Randy Goebel, Sterling Schiller, Bryant Schiller, Robert Anderson and friend, Bill Rhodes.

Lee Roy Jones, Jr. died early Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the age of 80. He was a tough old cowboy who survived two bouts of cancer, various surgeries and Parkinson's disease, but it was his battle with emphysema that finally did him in. He put up a heck of a fight and lived a lot longer than expected.

He was born November 3, 1929 in a rent house in Hempstead, Texas. His parents, Roy and Rose Lee Vanhowten Jones lived in Raccoon Bend for several years before moving to Conroe where Lee Roy graduated in 1947.

His dad, some of his brothers and some uncles worked for Humble oil in the Raccoon Bend, Katy and Conroe Companies and Lee Roy did too, putting in over 37 years.

Lee Roy loved horses and had them all his life, from the time he was a kid up to his death. He raised and trained them for calf roping and sold some at rodeos he participated in (this was B.C., before children). The other cowboys would give him a hard time because he would rope in a pair of black Converse high tops instead of his boots. Lee Roy explained that he got better traction in them and had a better chance of winning, any prize money he won was spent on his horses. Lee Roy loved telling stories about his horses; the first one he bought cost him $25, a lot of money for a kid in the 1940's. One of his favorite stories was when he was around 20 years old and "went to see a man about a horse" Lester Goodson, who owned a Pontiac dealership in Houston had a ranch in Montgomery County and had a reputation for breeding good quarter horses. Things were different in the 1940's because Mr. Goodson invited Lee Roy in to talk horses when he knocked on his door. It always meant a lot to him that Mr. Goodson treated that horse-crazy kid with respect. Lee Roy had a buddy whose family had a lot of cows that ran loose in the Piney Woods outside Conroe, always eager to help them work cows, he said it wasn't work when you got to sit on a horse all day.

Drafted in 1951 and sent to fight in Korea put a stop to his rodeoing. His army buddies teased him because his letters home were about the care and feeding of his eight horses, not some sweetheart. When his favorite horse died during the war his mama told the family members not to tell him fearing it would kill him.

After returning from Korea in 1953, Humble Oil gave him his job back and a choice of gas plant locations. He picked Katy because throughout the 1950's the town had rodeos on a regular basis and there were also ones at Cypress and Valley Lodge in Simonton.

Lee Roy was an intelligent and talented man who could make anything he needed. He took up leather working to make belts and bridles and repairing his saddle. Needing a horse trailer, he taught himself to weld. His welding skills would one day lead to a promotion at work. He also made a wooden car from plywood, bicycle tires and a lawnmower engine. The bright yellow "Buggy" got him to work and all around the 1950's Katy and on to Sealy for family visits, wanting to practice his roping, he also built himself a small rodeo arena.

Lee Roy married Waldine Schiller on February 21, 1955 after a whirlwind courtship. They met when she helped him with a purchase at Max Kroener's dry goods store. When his buddies wanted to know why he was suddenly going to Sealy every day he told them he had to buy horse feed. He suffered from two crushed vertebrae when he was thrown from Lil Bit, a filly he was training about eight years ago, tough and stubborn he thought he could do at "72" what he used to do at 22.

A few weeks before his death, when he could still say a few words, he was giving his grandson, John advice on how to care for Lil Bit. Lee Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Rosa Lee Jones; his brothers, Archie, Eddie Ray, Henry, Arvil and Gordon; sisters, Burta (A.G.), Marie and Mildred;son-in-law, Bubbie Hintz.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Waldine Jones of Sealy, daughter, Jennifer Hintz of Cat Spring; daughter Tracy Cendalski and husband Charlie of Brenham and son, Toby Jones and wife Helen of Sealy. Lee Roy had four grandchildren he loved more than anything; Katie Jones Goebel and husband Wes, John Jones, Sydney Cendalski and wife Lauren and great-grandson Carter Goebel. He is also survived by his sister Erna Jo Dixon of Humble and brother Melvin Jones and wife Ruby of Conroe. Lee Roy also leaves behind his horse Lil Bit. Lee Roy is being buried by his son-in-law Bubbie Hintz.
