Hintz, Adelle Ruth (Maresh) (7 Jan 1931 - 9 Apr 2023)
Family- Father: John Frank Maresh, Mother: Sophie Tonie Hluchan, Spouse: Leroy Hintz Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Adelle Ruth Maresh Hintz passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, in Sealy. She was 92 years old. Mrs. Hintz was born in Frydek on January 7, 1931 to John and Sophie Maresh. Her middle name, Ruth, was given in keeping with the local tradition of naming the first girl in each family after Ruth of the Bible.
She attended public schools in both Frydek and Sealy, graduating from Sealy High School in 1948. One of her favorite school activities was playing on the Sealy volleyball team. After graduation, she attended business school in Houston for a year and then returned to Sealy to work as a switchboard operator in the local office of Southwestern Bell.
On Sunday, October 8, 1950, Adelle married Leroy Hintz. They settled in Sealy where they raised their three sons who kept her busy with their school, scouting, and sports activities. Adelle loved her family. She was a supportive wife, a caring mother, and a doting grandmother. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing the favorite meals of each family member.
Adelle was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sealy. She was confirmed in 1944 when the church was known as the Presbyterian Church of the Czech-Moravian Brethren. Over the years she served as an elder and trustee and was very active in the women's group. Her most gratifying work was on the building committee as they sought to carry out Cousin Wilma Petrusek's wish for the church to have a new worship sanctuary. This was accomplished with the completion and dedication of the new building in 2004 on Selman Drive.
In addition to family and church, she was very involved in maintaining the small farm in Frydek that had belonged to her parents. She was always mindful of the years of hard work her parents and brothers had put into the farm and was very appreciative of it. Adelle had fond memories of farm life and the close relationships that were shared within the community of relatives and neighbors.

Hodges, Charles H. "Chuck" (11 Jun 1926 - 21 Dec 2003)
Family- Father: Edward Hodges, Mother: Martha Rodgers, Spouse: Dorothy Cemetery: 1861 Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery References: GenFolks
Funeral services for Charles H. "Chuck" Hodges, 77, of Sealy were held on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at 1 p.m. from Christian City Fellowship with Rev. Rusty Griffin officiating. Interment was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville.
Serving as pallbearers were David Hoff, Steven Manak, Charles Hoff, Darrell Myers, Wade Hodges and Shan Hodges.
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet..." Revelation 1-10
Charles H. "Chuck" Hodges was called home by his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at 5 p.m. at the age of 77.
He was born June 11, 1926 in Bradley, Arkansas to parents Edward and Martha (Rodgers) Hodges. Charles and Miss Dorothy McCown were united in marriage on Feb. 19, 1949 in Conroe, Texas. With the exception of 15 years in Ridgecrest, California, they lived in or around Conroe, Texas until they moved to Bellville in 1979. Charles worked throughout his life as a truck driver, school custodian, and as a foreman for Ingersoll Rand until a near fatal fall in 1980 causing a severe brain injury forcing him to retire early and left him without a sense of taste or smell in addition to being color blind since birth. After he regained much of him memory and learned to drive again due to the patient teaching of his wife, his greatest joy was to serve his church by mowing the grass and serving as a custodian and general handyman. He also mowed the grass for church members, often refusing payment.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 29 years old. After that time he served the Lord as a deacon, church treasurer, Sunday School superintendent, youth worker, and by playing the guitar. He was a member of Ridgecrest Assembly of God in California and Woodland Park Assembly of God around the Conroe area prior to moving to Bellville.
Before moving to Bellville, Chuck and Dorothy prayed for an Assembly of God Church to begin in the area so that their daughter Martha and her family would have an Assembly of God Church to attend. Upon learning of Rev. Clyde Drake's desire to begin an Assembly of God Church in Sealy, Texas, Chuck and Dorothy felt God impressing them to support that work and later moved to Bellville to join in the work of establishing the new church. They joined Sealy Assembly of God, now known as Christian City Fellowship, while services were still held in the landmark building in the downtown area and worked diligently to complete the building at 1140 Meyer Street. Chuck was appointed as the church's first treasurer and also served as a deacon and guitarist. He faithfully attend that church until his death.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Hodges of Bellville, daughter Martha Elshick and husband Jesse of Bellville; son Larry Hodges and wife Carla of Sweeny; grandchildren Marie Myers, David L. Hoff, Charles W. Hoff, Donica Manak, Shan Hodges, Amy King, Wade Hodges and Erin Hodges; great grandchildren, Bonnie, Zain, Ryan, Dylan, Nichalos, Taryn, Madison, Nichalos, and Braden, Johnny and Herman and sisters, Jessie, Mildred and Opal.
When asked how he was, Chuck would say, "I'm still breathing" and his family is rejoicing that he is in heaven breathing the pure air, tasting and smelling without problem, seeing the brilliant colors of God's presence and is praising with a clear and completely healed mind.
Funeral services were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, Sealy, Texas.

Fort Bend Herald, January 11, 2024-
Irene Hodges grew up in Frydek before her parents, Emil and Agnes Starustka, moved and built their home in Wallis. An only child, she was fortunate to have both sets of grandparents and enjoyed the company of her cousins when growing up.
Irene met and married her husband, Talmage, of 70 years, when she was going to Wallis High School. They were married at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. She left her home to be with her new husband, Tal, where he was working on bridge construction sites across Texas. A year later, their son, Donnie, was born, and 10 months after, daughter, Debbie, arrived, so Irene was both a young wife and mother before turning 20. The young couple lived in a small trailer house and moved around to towns like Gainesville, Hillsboro, Longview, and Claude, Texas. When Donnie and Debbie were seven and six, Irene and Talmage decided to settle down in Wallis where they built their first house on land near her parents, the Starustkas. The children were enrolled in Guardian Angel Catholic School.
Irene and Tal enjoyed playing volleyball at the Lutheran Church, visiting friends, playing card and domino games, such as 42, and dancing. They loved to travel, from annual drives to see the bluebonnets, to day trips with grandkids, sometimes in their RV, to Puerto Vallarta, MX, skiing in Colorado, and Amish Country in Pennsylvania.
Irene was a member of the Wallis Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Queen of Angels #1538 for 55 years; she sold Avon Products, wrote local news for The Sealy News, and worked at Texas Instruments for several years while her son and daughter were in school. She was artistic, painted in oils and acrylics, made lovely floral arrangements, and kept a beautiful home. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished snow skier. Irene's first love was her family; a loving mother, she doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia over seven years ago, Irene became worse during the COVID pandemic. A fall which broke her hip caused her to lose mobility. Ongoing decline required her to be moved to a memory care facility.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Emil Starustka, and her husband, Talmage Blaine Hodges.
Survived by her son, Donald Blaine Hodges (Veronica); daughter, Deborah Hodges Ortiz; grandchildren, Layla Christensen (Steve), Derek Blaine Hodges (Le'Ann), Brian Ortiz, and Jonathan Ortiz (Katherine); great-grandchildren, Schyler, Tyler, and Kacey Christensen, Charlotte Marie Ortiz, Marielle and Carolina Ortiz.

Donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org in her memory.

Hopkins, Mike, Sr. (16 Sep 1944 - 14 Jul 2014)
Family- Father: David Flinnoye Hopkins, Mother: Elizabeth Marie, Spouse: Nina References: GenFolks
Bellville Times
Mike Hopkins, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Brenham, TX on July 14, 2014 with his loving wife of nearly 40 years Nina by his side. Services will be held Friday, July 18th at 2 PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brenham officiated by The Rev. Cecilia Smith & followed by a reception honoring his life and legacy at Mike Hopkins Distributing Company. Memorial Oaks Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mike was born to Elizabeth Marie & David Flinnoye Hopkins just outside of Texas on Sept. 16, 1944, but he got to Texas as soon as he could! A true Texan at heart and spirit, he leaves a legacy strong in foundation and purpose throughout our great state and country following his personal philosophy of Pass-It-On. He has cultivated many in our community and beyond to do the right thing for the right reasons with integrity and character.
His early days were spent in Galveston before earning a degree from Texas A&M and serving our country as a Marine. A true visionary from the beginning, he used his experiences like being the personal driver for General O.R. Simpson and being one of the first bar operators on Northgate to achieve future goals. He lived by never giving up and if you can't outsmart them, then you can certainly outwork them following the three A's of success- Ability, Aptitude, & Ambition.
This passion and vision led him and his wife Nina to Austin in the mid 1970's to take over as the Executive Director of the Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas (WBDT). This position allowed them to flourish both professionally and politically as they set the groundwork and together built the legacy that is now known as the Texas Three Tier system.
After reaching the pinnacle of influence in Austin (and most would say Washington, D.C. as well), Mike once again pivoted course for his family when an opportunity presented itself to be the Bud Man in Brenham, TX in 1989. The Hopkins, now including daughter Holly and son Mike Jr. moved to Brenham to start Mike Hopkins Distributing Company Inc. which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.
After 25 years in Brenham, Mike's passion of Pass-It-On has now fulfilled itself and lives on in all of us. While some may know that he was behind the Budweiser Clydesdales marching down Main Street, most don't know he was behind the current EMS location or countless other improvements in our community. Never wanting credit, Mike Hopkins Sr. was involved either financially or personally with virtually every project that impacts a life in our community because he truly believed in Pass-It-On.
His accolades and accomplishments fill volumes and speak to his legacy. Some of the many are being named Washington County Man-of-the-Year in 2008 and being a founding member of the Texas Lyceum and Center for Coastal Conservation (CCC). His love of deep sea fishing led him to serve on the Board of Directors for the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and the Houston Big Game Fishing Club. Following his philosophy of Pass-It-On, he served on the Executive Committees for the Texas A&M Chancellor's Council, Volunteer Services Council at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
. Locally, if there was a club, he was a supporting Member.
Mike is survived in death by his wife Nina and his brother David and his two children Holly Hopkins Richardson (Mark) and Mike Hopkins Jr. (Elizabeth) and his grandchild Tyler Henry Hopkins and nephew Nick Stratos. He is also survived by special friend of the family, Michael Dudich.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity, or to the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). Flowers will be received at Mike Hopkins Distributing Company.
Mike goes to Heaven in peace leaving a life and legacy of Pass-It-On with a cold glass raised high saying this Bud's For You.

Hoppe, Dessie Jean (Machemehl) (5 Apr 1930 - 30 Mar 2001)
Family- Father: Paul Wolfgang Machemehl, Mother: Elda Louise Schulze, Spouse: George Lee Hoppe Cemetery: Hoppe Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Dessie Hoppe passed away at her residence March 30, 2001.
She was born April 5, 1930 in Bellville to Paul and Elda Machemehl, the youngest of 4 girls.
She attended Southwest Texas State Teaher's College in San Marcos and received her teaching certificate in 1950. As a girl with a bright future, she embarked on what would become a bright and rewarding teaching career in Halletsville, teaching high school history.
She was doing great, and then a cousin of hers introduced her to George Lee Hoppe. The blind date was a a success and they began writing letters to each other. George was so hooked, rumor has it, that when Dessie broke her ankle, he carried her around at a dance. In March of 1922, they married and moved to Corpus Christi. After a short time they moved to Gonzales and Butch was born. The family moved to Columbus and had finally found a home... in God's county ... as George would say.
Dessie had found a home at Columbus High School and in between coaching, teaching, sponsoring the pep squad and driving the athletic buses, the best was yet to come. Sheila was born in 1953, Kathy in 1961 and Pat in 1963.
Dessie's career as the world's greatest mother had begun. She was nurturing, the ultimate caregiver, and made her children and husband the center of her life... until her grandchildren came along. They quickly became the sunshine of her life, as one of them said, "She's my best friend."
In 35 years of teaching, Dessie wore lots of hats- mother, grandmother, coach, teacher, mentor, doctor, psychologist, friend, ally and lobbyist to many kids. She taught at both high school and elementary levels- history health and physical education and coached volleyball, basketball and track.
She lived her life for others and loved all people unconditionally. She was generous, tolerant, compassionate, supportive, patient, the greatest listener, and always had a smile and a kind word. She made an effort to make everyone feel welcome and never judged. She loved knowing she was part of the process that helped someone learn something new. She was once asked why she loved teaching so much and she said that there was no better feeling than the one she got when she was the light bulb go on in a child's head-knowing that they got it, that they accomplished something important and that she helped.
Dessie was a hot commodity for the local organizations- the VFW Auxillary, the FCE, the Host program, FFA Alumni, and the New Ulm Lion's Club, coaching ladies' softball, and Girl Scouts are just a few of the ones she participated in. She was a constant supporter of the community and it's children, always participating in and encouraging participation in Veteran's Day programs, reading and writing programs, art shows and contests.
Dessie was everyone's friend, a social butterfly. Some of you may remember that we threw her a surprise party last year, which was a huge success. No one could work a room like Dessie-she made sure that she made it around the room to every single person and she was in her element that day, because she loved people. She was a pillar of the community- through the years you could see her at Dessie Hoppe Field Day, at the Veteran's Day flag raising ceremony, at Wednesday night Bingo, selling Buddy Poppies or Shrine ads, at the FFA auction, at the county fair, or at the elementary school reading to children.
In her personal life, she was busy cooking and baking-she was a wonder baker-working in her flower beds, traveling, watching her grandchildren in sporting events, and making jewelery and candles.
We all had wonderful memories that will keep her spirit alive- when you see a beautiful flower growing, think of Dessie; when you see a child laughing or learning, think of Dessie; when you see a rainbow on a rainy day, think of Dessie; and when you see someone who is feeling down, cheer them up and think of Dessie.
God has smiled down on all of us for having placed Dessie Hoppe in our lives. Know in your hearts, as we do, that she is now a unique, special addition and one of the most beautiful flowers in God's garden. God bless her and may she grow and bloom in peace.
Dessie was preceded in death by her husband, George; and three sisters, Wolfine Machemehl, Marguerite Suhler, and Becky Stewart.
Funeral services were held on Monday April 2, at Henneke Funeral Home with John Hunsicker, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, presiding.
Sympathy is extended to the family in their loss.
