In Austin County, Texas, on the 22nd of August, of tumor in the stomach, in her 67th year. Mrs. Mary McGregor, wife of Malcolm McGregor, formerly of this county. She was born in Cumberland County, N.C., where in early life she was trained to religious habits. As a member of the Presbyterian Church, in a quiet and unobtrusive manner, she showed her faith by her works. Her reverence for God was displayed by a constant searching of His Scriptures to know the ways of truth and eternal life -- closing a life of piety and a godly walk, by a triumphant testimony to the promise, “My grace shall be sufficient for thee.”

Family- Father: Barnabas McHenry, Mother: Sarah, Spouse: Kimbra Beth Gundy 2 Sep 94, Children: Noah Ellis; Jordan Beth Cemetery: Old Travis Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Lydia, daughter of Barnabas and Sarah McHenry, immigrated to TX in December 1833. She took a slave woman with her and claimed a quarter league of land near the site of Bellville in the Stephen F. Austin colony.
Outspoken and determined, she once faced down a sheriff with a warrant against her absent brother-in-law by insisting that all of the family's property was her own and her sister's inheritance from their father and thus could not under Mexican Law be seized for the husband's debts. She found little to praise in either Stephen F. Austin or his colony. She wrote letters and sent reports about the unhealthfulness of the Texas climate, it's citizens, the ad interim government for its leniency toward Antonio López de Santa Anna. In September 1834, she helped organize the first church in the colony at Caney Creek. She was also one of the first school teachers in the Republic of Texas. She opened a boarding school for girls at Montville and after closing two months later, she attempted a second school in her brother-in-law's home in 1837, with her sister as a teacher of a class of boys. It was closed in April 1838. Between 1840 and 1844, she went to KY and NY in time to attend the session of the Methodist General Conference that split the church into two branches over the issue of slavery. She returned to Texas in 1844 and lived with her sister and brother-in-law for the remainder of her life. During the Civil War, she and her sister taught clothing making to help with the shortage of clothes brought on by the war.

MRS. SUE MCNUTT PIONEER OF TEXAS HAS PASSED AWAY.
Sunday morning at 9 o'clock, May 29, 1927, Mrs. Sue McNutt passed away at her home near Kenney, Texas. She had been ill since last November, spending much of the time since then in a Temple hospital, where she underwent two operations.
Mrs. McNutt was born in Alabama February 3, 1858, and moved with her parents to Texas in 1867. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Brown, who were pioneers, formerly of South Carolina, and came here in the early days helping in every way to pave the way for the present generation.
Mrs. McNutt grew to girlhood near where she spent her entire life. She was married Nov. 1876 to the late Nathan McNutt, who preceded her to the grave several years ago. He also was a member of one of the fine old families of the early days. To this couple were born ten children, all of whom are living and were with her during her last hours except Edgar, who died in 1900 and Ernest who was called to his reward in January of this year, giving this bereaved family a double cross to bear.
The remaining children are Joe B. McNutt of Houston, Mrs. M. Smith and Dr. Nathan McNutt of Caldwell, Mrs. Dick Irvin and Miss Johnnie McNutt of Wallis, Misses Perle and Mamie McNutt of Kenney. There are ten grandchildren- three brothers of J. B. Brown of Waller, W. E. Brown of Smithville, Dr. W. T. Brown of Wallis; two sisters, Mrs. Lulia Lewis of San Antonio and Mrs. Ira T. Clemons of Comanche remain to grieve her passing. Mrs. McNutt's friends were numbered by her acquaintances.
**Another write up about her in the newspaper**
She was a fine Christian woman, devoted wife, and a wonderful mother. A friend to everyone and an angel of mercy to the poor and needy, the sick and suffering. The night was never too dark and the weather never too bad for her to go to those who needed her and the large concourse of sorrowing ones who followed the hearse which carried her to her last resting place at old Concord Hill, near Kenney, where sleep many of her loved ones, attested to the fact that she was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her and her fine family. She will be missed by that big family, as her home was their reunion place; by the neighbors with whom she kept close touch, by many friends to whom she was as a ray of sunshine, by the church which she loved and helped support - for she was a Methodist from childhood as were her parents. She served her day and generation to the best of her ability and we know that a crown of righteousness awaits her faithfulness to her family, her church, her friends and her Master whom she delighted to serve daily.
Rev. G. Z. Sadler, of Houston said the last rights over her body as he had done for her loved ones who had passed on. Her grave was covered with beautiful flowers she loved so well in life and the sorrowing crowd dispersed and left that new mound on the high lonely hill, many of them knowing that they had laid away their best and truest friend - for truly she was one of God's shining lights.
A Friend.

A few years afterward, August Haedge purchased a tract of land at Scranton Grove near Bleiberville where he built a classic German-style home. The old German ways of doing things from making soap to sausage to sauerkraut were a huge part of Erna's life.
She was very active in the West End Extension Homemakers Club of Austin County. Her entries in the Austin County Fair always received top honors. One year, Erna won the overall highpoint award at the Fair. She also liked to quilt, and many of the quilts that were made by her club were auctioned off in fundraisers for various charities.

Funeral services were conducted under the direction of Pete E. Etlinger Funeral Home of Bellville.
With the death of A. E. (Bootie) Mewis late Sunday evening, one of the area's as well of that of all Texas, lost a kind, colorful, strictly honest and honorable character. He was my friend, and I recall how many times during the eighty six years that I knew him, his stories were as fascinating as a picture book to a child.
Mr. Mewis was a neighbor of my mother and her family, and he also spoke most kindly of her, although she was more than ten years his senior. Mother and Dad and Uncle Dick Zeiske were always extremely fond of him and his entire family.
In times like this it is, I strongly believe, well to remember the lighter things, even some comical things about a lost loved one. Mr. Mewis thoroughly enjoyed a good joke, and I can see him now, drinking coffee, then having a true belly laugh, shaking all over. I often sought his advice, and was never mislead.
His white hat, boots, and vest, were trademarks of this famed cattleman. The name Bootie was said to have originated from the time when he was a little boy, insisted on boots instead of shoes.
His work with the Bellville Hospital, as a county commissioner, and First National Bank Director, as well as dozens of other items, will long be remembered. Yes, Mr. Bootie was my friend.

Mewis, John Arthur (3 Jan 1961 - 14 Aug 2024)
Family- Father: Leon Mewis, Mother: Alma Schiller Cemetery: 1861 Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery References: GenFolks
John Arthur Mewis was born in Bellville, Texas on January 3, 1961, to Leon and Alma Schiller Mewis. He loved them and talked about them throughout his life. His father was a cattleman and farmer. One of John’s favorite things as a child was going to the auction barn with his dad. In many ways this set the dream of his life, to be a cattle rancher, especially in the mold of his grandfather. John and his father sold beef to the wholesale market. His uncle, Jesse Mewis, let them use his butchering facility to dress out the cattle they sold. After his father’s passing in 1990, John could no longer continue with the meat business. Throughout his life, John always thought of himself as a cattle rancher.
John attended school in Bellville. He graduated from high school as an Honor graduate and National Honor Society member.
John loved the outdoors and the hunting and fishing life and would often go back to the family homeplace to pursue those activities. Don Allphin was his “fishing buddy”. John loved getting together with his family on Sundays and at holiday gatherings. He never left without a plate of food to take home.
Hew was very dedicated to going to church. When he couldn’t drive, he would call his Aunt Katie or Buck Eckermann and ask them to take him. He always went to church in his boots and his cowboy hat. There is a coat rack at the Methodist Church which was purchased to make sure he had a place for his hat during worship.
He was very generous, had a sense of humor, and loved talking. He was not afraid to call you and if you didn’t answer he would tell your answering machine all he had to say.
John loved with his mother Alma on the farm until her death in 2008. Janice Kokemor became his first guardian. She helped him with so many things and went well above and beyond standard guardian duties. John Harle became his second guardian and when John Mewis was unable to live independently, he landed at A Place for D.A.D.S. in Houston where he received special care afforded by Ms. Birdie McShan and her daughter.
While he was still living in Bellville, if you couldn’t find him at home or at church, odds were he was at Newman’s Bakery. He would walk that way whether it was raining, hot or cold, or anything in between. If someone picked him up along the way -wonderful- but if not, he was still going, at least once a day.
As we remember John, we celebrate the faith he had in Christ Jesus.
John is survived by many family members and friends.
Donations in John’s name may be made to Friends of Lifeline, The American Cancer Society or to NAMI Texas (nameitexas.org)

Marguerite Eleanor Michaelis was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1924, the fourth of 8 children born to Alex and May (Baty) Selesky.
She passed away on January 30 at home, following a long, fulfilling life and a brief illness.
After graduating from high school in Grayling, Michigan, she returned to Detriot and went to work at the Detroit Arsenal Tank plant at the beginning of World War II, where she welded on Sherman Army tanks alongside her father. Later, she transferred over to Ford Motor Company to their Willow Run plant and became a "Rosie the Riveter". The Willow Run plant had the army contract for B-24 Liberator heavy bombers.
Later, Marge joined the Army and did her basic training at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa. Following basic training, she was stationed at Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, California. That is where she met Leroy Michaelis. On leaving Camp Stoneman, she rode the train to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, where she was honorably discharged.
Leroy had previously been discharged and met her in San Antonio. They married the following day at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston.
Marge worked for an insurance company in Houston and for Sealy Hospital before starting her family. Then she became a stay-at-home mom, den mother, Girl Scout leader, and Little League mom. She served on the PTA and also took the school census. She had the capacity to love.
In 1970, Marge and Leroy moved to Pecos, Texas where Leroy transferred with Duval Sulfur Corporation. They lived there until Leroy retired in 1983, and they returned to Sealy. Five of their children graduated from Pecos High School.
Marge made many friends in Pecos, who she remained in touch with over the years.
She volunteered at the church office until she "retired" at 96. She also was a member of the "Friends of the Library" for the Gordon Memorial Library. She loved to bake and cook. Many recipes were kept secret, but she shared the goodies!
Marge and Leroy enjoyed some travel, including two trips to Germany, and many trips to Michigan. Also trips following children and grandchildren's sporting events, graduations, birthdays, and weddings all over Texas. Marge also took several cruises and trips with brother Jim and sister Alice in later years. She treasured all of her family time.
They were married fifty-five years when Leroy passed away. They both loved their country and were proud to serve. Marge could be seen at recent events saluting the flag.

Family- Father: Edward Walter “Ed” Michalke, Mother: Clara Bilski, Spouse: Laurie Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Mike "Popsy" Michalke was born February 14, 1960 in Weimar, Texas to Edward and Clara Michalke. After a long, brave, and courageous battle with leukemia he went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2017 at the age of 57 surrounded by his loving family in Katy. During his heroic fight with cancer Mike stayed true to his great character- soft spoken, kind, compassionate, strong, friend to all, great listener, quick witted, and always willing to help others.
He was baptized at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Weimar. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Sealy through the 7th grade. Mike transferred to Sealy public schools from which he graduated with honors in 1978. He attended Texas A & M University for 2 semesters before returning to Sealy for the love of his life Laurie Jean Schaffner. On November 8, 1980, Mike and Laurie were married and to this union were born their two sons, Brandon Michael and Nathan Scott.
Mike's number one passion was his family. He always made his children's activities his priority from late nights at the ball park to endless miles traveling to livestock shows or rodeos. Growing up, Mike was involved in showing animals through 4-H and FFA, a skill he passed down to his sons and grandsons. Because of his love for livestock, he enjoyed ranching with his father-in-law, Billy Schaffner. Another passion of Mike's was fishing and hunting. Even his battle with leukemia couldn't stop him from spending quality time with his family. Hardly a day went by that you wouldn't find Popsy somewhere with a fishing pole in his hand alongside his grandsons, Sterling and Sutton. He also was able to fulfill a dream of hunting elk in Canada.
Throughout his life Mike was involved in numerous organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Austin County Fair Association Directors, Texas High School Rodeo Association Region 7 State Directors, Texas High School Rodeo Association Executive Board and Austin County Go Texan Committee. For many years, he was known as the "Rodeo Bar King" for the Austin County Fair.
Mike created a legacy during his 38 year career at Sealy Concrete. He was a key part of the growth and success of the company. While there he built countless employee and customer relationships most of which resulted in lifelong friendships.
Mike is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laurie; sons Brandon; Nathan and wife Lauren; grandsons, Sterling and Sutton; mother, Clara Michalke Lindemann; brothers Mark; Marlen and wife Gretchen; mother and father-in- law, Billy and Doris Schaffner; sister-in-law, Beth Fleming and husband, Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Veteran: Korea, SFC, US Navy, US Navy; SFC US Army 1952-54 Family- Father: Merle Wilford Miller, Mother: Alice Mae Alexander Cemetery: San Felipe de Austin Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as PaPa Jack.
Jack was born in Houston Texas to Merle W. Miller and Alice Mae Miller. He and his wife of 72 years, Clara, enjoyed taking vacations with their family when their children were at home and later with his daughter and son-in-law. He enjoyed a daily walk and seeing the beginning of each new day. His standard was to be able to go to bed at night and think back over the day and ask himself, "what did I do constructive today?" For Jack, this was never a problem. He did something every day that was constructive. He also believed that if something was made by man, he could fix it. He truly was a "Jack" of all trades.
Jack enlisted in the Navy first, as a medic and sailed to Haiti and Guantanamo Bay Cuba. He then did a branch transfer when the Korean war broke out and served in the U.S. Army as an M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (Quad Fifty) Half-Track commander reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. When the war ended, he was on the 38th Parallel on the front lines. At the end of the war he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army and returned to civilian life.
Jack was a member of the Pasadena Boulevard United Methodist Church and then the San Felipe United Methodist Church. He served in several offices while a member of these two churches. Jack started at Walgreens after the war, then moved to Folgers and finally to the Lubrizol Corporation. He retired from their Bayport plant after a long fulfilling career.
Jack was also a Master Mason. He was raised at Pasadena Lodge 1155, then transferred to Brookshire Lodge 1066, and finally to the Olive branch Lodge 26 in San Felipe, Texas. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of American Legion post 442 in Sealy Texas.
Jack was a great friend to many people and helped many people during his life. When he saw a need, be it a person or an organization, he was always willing to help. He was also an extremely good dominoes player as his family can attest to.
He will be greatly missed by his family, all his many friends, and his church family.

Millican, Robert Hemphill (1750 - Apr 1836)
Family- Father: William Thomas Millican, Mother: Mary Branham, Spouse: Nancy Jane McNiel References: FamilySearch, Findagrave, GenFolks
Biography; ; Robert Hemphill Millican, one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred colonists, the son of William and Mary Millican, was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, in 1750. He married Nancy Jane McNeil in the 1770s and arrived in Texas in December 1821. He brought two married sons, William T. and James D., with their families, a widowed daughter with her family, six other sons, and one daughter. Millican received title to 2½ sitios of land in the big bend of the Brazos River in what is now Brazos County on July 16, 1824. Horatio Chriesman presented his bill for surveying the land in October 1824. Sometime before November 1824 Millican's home was the site of an election of militia officers. The census of March 1826 classified him as a farmer and stock raiser aged over fifty; his household included his wife, Nancy Jane (over fifty), four sons, two daughters, three servants, and two slaves. The census carried a note that he was building a grain mill on the Brazos River. Millican died during the Runaway Scrape in April 1836, of pneumonia and measles, on the bank of the Trinity River just above the town of Liberty. He was buried there on the riverbank. He was survived by his wife, eight sons, and two daughters. Mrs. Millican married William S. Ellis on June 11, 1838.

Millican served in the Texas army during the Texas Revolution and was to receive a bounty warrant for 320 acres from the secretary of war for service from April 25, 1836, to July 25, 1836.
---
William Templeton Millican, pioneer, attorney, and public official, the son of Nancy Jane (McNeil) and Robert Hemphill Millican, was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, in the 1780s. As a member of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred colonists, he arrived in Texas in December 1821, in company with other members of the Millican family. He received title to one sitio of land in what is now Brazos County on July 16, 1824. Horatio Chriesman had surveyed the land by October, but by September 1825 Millican had moved to land purchased from Henry Whitesides and Jack C. Davis and was in conflict with Henry and Boland Whitesides over his title. The census of March 1826 listed Millican as a farmer and stock raiser, aged between twenty-five and forty. His household included his wife, Libitha, two sons, two daughters, and one slave. In July 1826 his home was a polling place for the election of delegates to a provisional judiciary for the colony. He was elected as a delegate from the Washington district to the Consultation of 1835. In 1839 he was elected justice of the peace for Washington County. He was appointed agent for various Washington County residents in 1840, and in 1841 he was elected justice of the peace for Navasota County. Millican served in the Texas army during the Texas Revolution and was to receive a bounty warrant for 320 acres from the secretary of war for service from April 25, 1836, to July 25, 1836. He died in September 1843, however, and the Brazos County land was not patented to him until October 10, 1845. In a letter filed in the probate court of Brazos County, his brother, Dr. Elliott McNeil Millican, stated that their mother was William Millican's only heir-at-law, and she received title to his land. At his death, Millican was survived by his wife, three sons, and four daughters.

Rosalee Niver Minks passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Sodalis Assisted Living in Wharton, Texas. She joins her beloved husband Joe, who passed away on October 18, 2014. She was 89 years old.
Rosalee was born March 28, 1933, in the Krasna Community of East Bernard, Texas, to Joe and Emily Konvicka Niver. She was the second of four children and the only daughter. Rosalee grew up on a farm and attended school in Tavener for eight years, and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1950. She excelled in volleyball and softball and developed a lifelong love of competitive sports. Rosalee married Joe Minks on January 27, 1952, and settled in Wallis, Texas, where they eventually bought the family farm from Joe's parents. Joe and Rosalee were blessed with six sons, who in turn were blessed with growing up on Minks farm.
Rosalee first entered the workforce as a teacher's aide at Guardian Angel Catholic School when her youngest sons started school. She later held various positions in Wallis schools, ultimately becoming the Superintendent's secretary and an active member of many civic organizations. She retired from Brazos ISD in 1991 and continued volunteer work with a special passion for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, of which she was a charter member for the Guardian Angel Catholic Church chapter.
Joe and Rosalee were blessed with 62 years of marriage. They spent countless hours in bleachers, stadiums, and sometimes lawn chairs watching their sons and, later, their grandchildren play ball. They were also true-blue fans of the Houston Texans, Rockets and Astros, and San Antonio Spurs. However, WWE Smackdown was their favorite television sport! In addition to sports, Joe and Rosalee liked to dance and belonged to the Wallis Dance Club for many years. They also enjoyed playing dominos and were members of a local club.
When Joe's health declined, Rosalee became his tireless caregiver. She visited him faithfully every afternoon when he was in the nursing home, bringing goodies, keeping him company, and playing games to cheer him up. She would stay until he was ready for bed.
After Joe passed, Rosalee found solace in her life at Minks farm. She enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren and was very appreciative of her neighbors, Wanda and Freddie Engelbrecht and Adelina and Victor Hernandez. Her beloved cat, Muffin, was a constant companion. She loved to read and always had a book or two checked out of the library. She read the Houston Chronicle daily and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed keeping up with friends and family on Facebook using her trusty iPad.

Seija "Anitta" Tanttu was born April 14, 1962 in Finland to Vaito and Ulla Tanttu. She was raised on their dairy farm along with her older brothers Heikki and Kari. She was baptized as a Lutheran Christian, and her faith grew during confirmation and youth group experiences. Anitta started college at the University of Helsinki, studying theology. Then, she moved to Mexico in 1983 as an International Christian Youth Exchange student. There she met her first husband Jimmie Poffenberger. They had five wonderful children together: Mille, Beth, Lydia, Sara, and Sam. They mostly lived in Bellville, Texas. They all lived in Finland for the school year 1997-1998.
Anitta returned to the University of Helsinki and got a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a teaching minor in Spanish. She had also taken some education courses at Prairie View A&M.
Teaching was a real passion for her. She had even home-schooled her girls when they were young. Anitta taught Spanish at Sealy, Columbus, and Fayetteville high schools. She also taught briefly at Bellville HS and Faith Academy. Before teaching Spanish, she was a WIC bi-lingual Infant Nutrition Peer Counselor.
Anitta was warm, humorous, kind, God-loving, strong, independent, and very hard-working. Her other passions and talents were singing, gardening, wood-working, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, and sewing.
In 2003, she and her kids moved into a new home in South Creek Crossing. That same year, she met Jonathan Mollenkopf, the new music director at St. John Lutheran Church. They married in 2006 at the St. John Retreat Center. There were many fun dinners and parties with neighbors, friends, and family at the house in South Creek. Anitta welcomed anyone into her home. She loved having her kids' friends over, whether it was youth from church or fellow students from school. She did not care about someone's skin color, language, financial situation, or any other perceived barrier.
For 11 years, Anitta dealt with her Alzheimer's disease with faith, strength, and grace. Her family would like to express gratitude to her many excellent caregivers over the years: the staff of AlzCare, Cuero Nursing Home, and Hospice of South Texas, caregivers Diana Torrez and Margie McElhaney, and the many friends and family members who sat with her.
Anitta went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 5, 2024.

SAN JACINTO VETERAN DEAD
Lovic P. Moore, Soldier of Sam Houston's Army, Dies at His Home.
Special to The News.
Temple, Tex., July 28. - The death of Lovic P. Moore, one of the few surviving members of Sam Houston's army and a participant in the struggle at San Jacinto, occurred here yesterday.
Mr. Moore was born in Georgia, spent his youth in Alabama, and came to Texas in 1835. At the time of his death he was 92 years and 8 months of age.
In 1868 he came to Bell County, having married Miss Annie Ayres, daughter of David Ayres, in Washington County in 1835, the year of his arrival in the then Mexican dependency. Three sons and one daughter survive him - D. W., T. T. and David P. Moore of Bell County, and Mrs. C. C. Minnis of Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Moore enlisted with Sam Houston in 1836 and served throughout the revolution. He was a member of the party which started to the relief of the Alamo, but which turned back after reaching Gonzales on receiving news of its fall.
From Gonzales his command retreated on foot, being so closely pursued by the Mexicans that they were cut off from their horses. They were pursued as far as the Colorado River, after which they fell back to the Brazos, where Houston held his army until the enemy was located at San Jacinto.
Mr. Moore was on detached duty during the struggle that followed and rendered his country invaluable service. Lovic Moore was the last of the little remnant of Hill County veterans who served in the revolution, whereas a few years since a dozen or more were living. The funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the family residence one mile east of town, where the home has been for many years, an immense concourse of people followed the remains to their last resting place, were (where) services were conducted by Rev. C. R. Wright of Waco, pastor of the Methodist Church.

An Old Texas Gone
Mrs. Mary Ann Moore died last Saturday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. C. Minnis, at the age of 73.
Mrs. Moore was the wife of L. P. Moore, an old Texan, who came from Connecticut in the year 1834 and settled in Washington County, being one of the first settlers. Mr. Moore, with his family, moved to Bell County in 1866 and has lived here ever since. The deceased attended regularly every year with her husband the reunion of the Texas veterans till this year when she could not go on account of her ill health. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Methodist church for fifty years, but did not attend services often on account of deafness. The immediate cause of her death was cancer of the stomach from which she had suffered for fifteen years. She leaves her husband hale and hearty at the age of 79, respected and honored as one of Texas’ noblemen, also four children that Bell county finds price in claiming as citizens; D. P. Moore, Mrs. C. C. Minnis, D. W. and T. T. Moore.
The Temple Times (Temple, Tex.), vol. 12, no. 86, ed. 1, Thursday, 16 June 1892, page 3
Obituary
On the 4th day of June, 1892, at the age of 73, Mrs. M. A. Moore, in response to the promised call from the Master to His faithful servants, “come up higher,” left this world to enjoy the reward that awaits all who do the will of God.
Mrs. Moore, the deceased, was born at Ithaca, N. Y. on July 22, 1819. She came to Texas in the fall of 1834 with her father, David Ayers, who settled in the territory of what is now known as Washington County, and at that place was married to Mr. L. P. Moore on July 29, 1835.
The life and death of the deceased only adds another strong link to the great chain of evidence that the promises of God will be verified if his children will only be faithful and live up to the standard of the true disciple as taught by the Son of God. The departed raised a family fo four children to manhood and womanhood who reflect honor upon the parents and in whom Bell county finds pride in calling her citizens.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the Methodist church for over fifty years and all who knew her are united in their praises to her memory as a consistent and useful member, kind, generous, charitable and a model type of a true Christian wife and mother, whose life was an example to the world that the finite mind can never fully appreciate.
The deceased suffered many years with ills to which this flesh is heir but despite this she was happy to the last in the consciousness of having lived a useful life; she loved Texas and her people and ever looked forward from year to year to the reunion of her old veterans, of whom she was one, with undisguised joy.
Now let the aged rejoice that the time draws near when they will meet their old friend on the other shore, and the young take new courage from the example set by this servant of God recognizing in her life and death a fulfillment of His promises.

Robert Louis Moss, 72, of Humble, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at in Humble.
Robert Louis "Bob" Moss was born on November 11, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama to Louis Moss and Joyce Marcus Moss, and went to be with our gracious Lord and Savior on May 16, 2021.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Joyce Moss.
Bob is survived by his wife, Catherine Verm-Moss of 23 years; and 3 children, Bryan Moss and wife, Stacy, of Sugar Land, Ashley Moss Crowl and husband, Michael, of Austin, and Brian Verm and wife, Sonia, of Humble; 9 grandchildren; brother, Mike Moss and wife, Nora, of Pasadena; and brother Bruce Moss and wife, Kathleen, of Houston; aunt, Gurtie Runnels of Petal, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was an extraordinary human being. He was a loyal son, protective brother, loving husband, patient father, fun uncle, proud grandfather, and friend you could always call on. Bob never knew a stranger.
From the time Bob was a young child, he knew he wanted to work in architectural and engineering design. He was an active child and adolescent, loved to build, draw, and constantly learn. While at South Houston High School, he played football, ran track, and held a part-time job. After graduating, Bob attended San Jacinto College and became the youngest quality control inspector on the Apollo Mission space program at Johnson Space Center. A great job for a college freshman with an opportunity to meet several astronauts, which he took full advantage of.
Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Sergeant leading a team of aerial mapping specialists in the intelligence agency during the Vietnam War. During this time, he also started a family with his high school sweetheart who he had wed a couple of years earlier. After dutifully serving his country, Bob spent 50 years in drafting and design, his career spanning from working in Fortune 100 companies to owning his own drafting business, RLM Drafting & Design, and everything in between. Throughout, Bob was a consistent volunteer in his community and church, coach of his children's sports teams, and served in several professional non-profit organizations and associations.
Always looking for ways to connect with others, he was always game for gathering with his brothers, family, and buddies over a round or two of golf. Bob also enjoyed hosting large groups of family and friends at his Hill Country home and taking them boating on Lake Travis. Like clockwork every fall, one would find Bob and his son at the deer lease on weekends mostly spending time enjoying nature and talking about life. Bob found many ways to bring together those he loved. He will be missed dearly. Yet, we are comforted knowing we are blessed to have received his love and friendship.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 21, 2021, in Sealy, TX. The Celebration of Life service will begin with a visitation 12-00 pm-1-45 pm at Knesek Bros.
