Peschel, Willroy "Tiny" (1934-2024)

Nickname: Tiny [Family] Father: Willie Peschel, Mother: Emilie Hegemeyer, Spouse: Peggy Joyce Maresh [Cemetery] National Cemetery ()

Willroy “Tiny” Peschel was born December 19, 1934, in Nelsonville, Texas, and was called by Our Heavenly Father to a grand homecoming celebration on July 18, 2024.

Willroy attended school in Nelsonville until 8th grade and then he decided it was time to go to work. He worked the home place in Nelsonville farming and taking care of the livestock. On September 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce (Maresh) Peschel, in Nelsonville at The Nelsonville Brethren Church with Reverend Henry Beseda officiating.

Willroy and Peggy made their first home in Bellville, Texas. They happily welcomed four children into this world. In 1979 they built their dream home in Oak Hill, Texas where they spent the rest of their lives devoted to the family they made that kept growing.

Their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were their world, and they were always proud of their accomplishments no matter how big or small.

Willroy worked from sun up until sun down to provide for his family. His first job was at a gas station in Racoon Bend Texas. After marrying Peggy, he started at San Bernard Electric Cooperative. After, he would then go to his second job in the evenings and on weekends trimming trees. Willroy loved his time at San Bernard Electric and everyone he had the pleasure of working with for 40 years. This is where he received the nickname “Tiny.”

Willroy enjoyed dancing the night away with Peggy, gardening, canning his locally known and famous “Papa Tiny Pickles,” and coaching little league. He was very active in and attended Nelsonville Brethren Church where he served as an elder for many years. He also spent much time mowing, raking, and baling hay, helping his children raise show pigs, serving on the Austin County Fair Committee by working the Market Barrow Show every year on Wednesday and working the youth auction sale gate every year on Friday for many years at The Austin County Fair. He enjoyed with a passion attending his children and grandchildren’s school events, athletics, band, and whatever they were involved in, and still attended Bellville High School football games regularly.

Willroy loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which if you attended the Four County Auction Sale on Tuesdays you’d often see him and his little herd of grandchildren there with him because they all wanted to go to the auction with “Papa Tiny.”

Willroy worked hard all of his life and never skipped a beat. He loved his family with that same passion and will be greatly missed by anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him. Willroy is survived by his children, William Roy Peschel and wife Bonnie, Wayne Allen Peschel and wife Karen, Susan Beth Peschel and Shelley Ann Peschel Harkey.

CMSGT US Air Force
World War II, Korea, Vietnam

Jimmie L. Pfeffer, age 92, passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, with his children at his side, in his room, in his bed calling the shots; it was his way. Yes, he loved Sinatra's music, and Jim was always doing it his way.

A German share cropper's son from Blyberville, Texas, to a man in constant motion, traveling the world in his planes, he lived the American Dream and loved every minute of it. From Presidents of countries to the insurance agency he led, 2800 agents spread across all 50 states and 13 countries; everyone looked forward to seeing, as many called him "Mr. P". It was a full life.

Born June 8, 1929 in Blyberville, Texas Jim Enlisted in the Army Air Corps at 17 to get into WWII and missed it. He transferred to the newly formed Air Force and then saw action in Korea as a forward air controller, squadron leader and was recognized with the Bronze Star & Distinguished Service Medal. Jim served and saw action in Vietnam as well doing exemplary intelligence work to expose the Russian involvement. During his tour of duty in the Far East which stretched over 5 years, he became a scratch golfer, a 33rd degree mason of the Philippine Masonic Lodge, as well as a Shriner and finished up doing intelligence work for the NSA.

He truly enjoyed living all over the world; the Far East, Europe, Japan.

He retired from the Air Force at 38 as a Chief Master Sargent at Kelly AFB in San Antonio.

Then "Mr. P", took on the task of growing and making the Non Commissioned Officers Association the best it could be, when he started at the NCOA there were 10,000 members and when he handed off the reins to Jim Duncan there were over 150,000 members which eventually grew to over 350,000. He strongly believed in the NCOA motto Strength in Unity and worked at it every day.

He then took on the task of growing the companies that provided the benefits to the NCOA members Ammest Services and Academy Life insurance company, which grew tremendously with him and his partners at the helm.

Hold them close while they are here it goes too fast . . .

He is preceded in death by parents, Edward and Rosie Louise Pfeffer. Helen Geneva Pfeffer (Wife) Steven Michael Pfeffer (Son), Nancy Sue Coffman Pfeffer (Daughter in law), and Michelle Denise Pfeffer (wife).

Pfeffer, Milton Lee (1932-2013)

USFlag[Veteran] Korea, CPL, US Army [Family] Father: Wesley Pfeffer, Mother: Erline Brast [Cemetery] Pilgrims Rest Cemetery #01 () , FG

Bellville Times

Milton Lee Pfeffer was born to Wesley William Pfeffer and Eline Brast Pfeffer on May 20, 1932, on the Pfeffer homestead in Bellville. Following work, the family later moved to both Simonton and Rosenberg, before they returned to Bellville and settled near the old homestead.

Milton was baptized with his brother, Wilford, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville by Pastor A. W. Weber on March 16, 1946. He was a member at St. John Lutheran where he had served as an usher in his younger years. He attended both the Bradbury and Piney Schools before attending Bellville High School. Six months prior to graduation, Milton, growing evermore unimpressed that Bellville High School did not compensate students to attend, quit and found various handyman and construction related jobs. However, he never considered high school a total waste. It was there he found his high school sweetheart, Carole Jane Brandt, who he married on June 24, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church. He carried her Senior picture in his wallet until the day he died.

Milton was drafted into the United States Army and stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso as the Korean War drew to an end. Milton and Carole lived in El Paso throughout Milton's service in the Army. He quickly made the rank of Corporal, by ensuring communications were functioning properly, racing hot rods, and fighting the “Battle of El Paso,” as he and friends would joke.

After his time in the service, Milton and Carole returned to Bellville to live with his brother, Wilford and wife, Gloria, while the two built their home on South Oak Street. Milton resumed work in construction and completed his GED. In his spare time, he attended Blinn Junior College where he learned the skills necessary to become both a licensed electrician and Bellville's City Electrician.

Milton later branched out and started his own company, Pfeffer Electric. He could fix or wire just about anything. Milton never had much of a need for the modern luxuries of fancy meters to check voltage. He always believed a wet finger with some spit on it was a far more reliable method of telling whether a wire was hot. His projects ranged from the Christmas lights on the city's water tower and court house to Barry Galloway's (later Red Adair's) dance hall and saloon to countless homes across Bellville. In fact, the lights we are all sitting under in this building today are a shining example of Milton's quality of work. What is less evident is the steep discount he gave a young family starting out, which shows his passion for helping his family and others.

Milton loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Family fishing trips to Matagorda in a station wagon or the old Scout International inspired in his youngest daughter, Jan, a lifelong passion for fishing. Sunday drives looking for deer and other animals, inspired a love of hunting in his oldest daughter, Donna.

Some of both Milton's and his grandson's fondest memories were made as he taught them to hunt, fish and camp at the “Pasture.” To his grandsons “Popo” was one of the toughest men they have ever met, but there is no question he had a soft spot in his heart for them. Popo would often put his own work second, because nothing was more important to him than making sure his grandsons knew how to properly ride on the bumper of his pickup or feed the catfish. He also never thought twice about giving the squirrel he planned on eating a proper burial to stop their tears or watching the big buck's tail flag as it crossed the fence because the boys thought they needed a better look at him than he did. But, he also loved reminding them of those two times long into their adult lives.

Milton enjoyed drinking beer and playing dominos at the Burleigh Store, cooking stews, frying fish, and, for a number of years, cooking at the Sheriff's BBQ for law enforcement officers. He loved to hate his cattle, while he had them, and liked shooting pool with the Wednesday Night group in Brookshire, but could somehow only remember the games he won.

The final 4½ years of Milton's life he lived in Brookshire with his daughter Donna, and her husband, Wayne. He loved their dogs and cats, and they loved him, but only fed them because “someone had to.” He also loved getting to know his four great grandsons and was more proud of them than he was his Smith & Wesson .44 magnum.

Milton is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley William Pfeffer and Eline Brast Pfeffer, his wife of 58 years, Carole, his son-in-law, Steve Schmidt, and sister-in-law, Linda Brandt.

He is survived by his daughters Donna Schmidt Fricke and husband, Wayne, of Brookshire, Jan Barnett and husband, Jack, of La Porte; grandsons Steven Schmidt and wife, Dawn, of Weatherford, OK, Ryan Schmidt and wife, Jessica, of San Antonio; great grandsons Tyler Schmidt, Blake Schmidt, Cade Schmidt and Hudson Schmidt; brother Wilford Pfeffer and wife, Gloria, of Bellville; aunt Gladys Pfeffer of Bellville; sister-in-law- Jewel Fay Fontenot of Bellville; brother-in-law Glenn Brandt and wife, Jeannie, of Bellville, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family received friends 5-7 p.m.., Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville.

A Funeral Service was held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Schwertlich officiating.

He always said- “I'm going to the bottom to check cows.”

Bobby enjoyed being outside. He enjoyed fishing, BBQing the best chicken EVER on his homemade washing machine BBQ pit, and hunting with his dear friend Jerry Hanson. He attended as many cattle auctions as he could. He was never one to sit still. Every morning, he would visit the “guys” at Riverside Tire Center, and every evening, he would enjoy an ice-cold beer or two, sometimes with his buddy Rudy Fotajsek.

Phillips, John, III (1936-2013)

[Family] Father: John E, Phillips Jr., Mother: Patricia Caldwell, Spouse: Patricia Jackoskie Jones  ()

Bellville Times

John Phillips III went to heaven April 14, 2013 in Houston, Texas, after a brief battle with liver cancer. John was born July 27, 1936 to John E, Phillips Jr. and Patricia Caldwell Phillips. He was born in Waco, Texas, where as a young man he enjoyed car racing and competing in the Regional Golden Glove Boxing Tournaments. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and earned a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from Baylor University. John started his career with Crawford & Company in Houston and was there for nine years before being transferred to the Virgin Islands. He eventually opened his own firm, “Caribbean Claims Services.” John enjoyed 22 exciting years of island life. His love of people and animals and his sense of humor was know island wide, and his love of the water had him sailing from island to island on the weekends on his boat, Papillion. John worked just as hard as he played. He was a true entrepreneur with an industrious, hard working spirit. He even rebuilt his home overlooking Magen's Bay after surviving Hurricane Hugo in 1989. But after Hurricane Hortense in 1991, he gave up island life for country life, and bought a farm in Bellville, Texas to be closer to his sons and grandchildren. He began helping other victims of hurricanes and natural disasters through his work at FEMA. Transitioning from island life to country life in Bellville proved easy enough, as he enjoyed growing a garden, cutting hay, and being a part of the Historical Society's Friday night socials. John appreciated living his last years in the Bellville Community.

John loved his life on the pavement as much as he did the water. Harley Davidsons and old cars were his favorite. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and going to car shows with his sons and taking his grandchildren for rides in his 1932 Ford Roadster. He was a member of the Houston Roadsters Hot Rod Club. John loved anything with wheels.

Whether on the water, the pavement, the ski slopes, or in the air flying planes, John's adventurous spirit, quick wit and charming blue eyes will be remembered by the many friends he collected throughout his life.

John is preceded in death by his son, John Emery, affectionately known as “Little John,” brother, E.B. (Butch), and his parents.

He is survived by his ex-wife Patricia Jackoskie Jones, son William (Bill) T. Phillips and grandchildren, Travis, Tara and Dianna Phillips. “Papa John” loved them very much.

“Johnny” will be greatly missed by his friend of more than 40 years and his loving companion for more than 20, Amy Linton. He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, Delaney, Darcey, Lynn and Donny Holender and feel blessed and honored for the loving role he played in their lives.

A Memorial Service celebrating John's life was held at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055 on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in the name of John E. Phillips
