Singleton, Edward Bivens (22 Oct 1920 - 10 Jan 2015)

Veteran: WW2, Dr., USAAF Family- Father: Albert O. Singleton, Mother: Will Dean Bivens, Spouse: Selwyn Rayzor & Margaret Ann Renfroe References: GenFolks
Bellville Times
Edward Bivens Singleton left this world to be with the Lord on the 10th of Jan. 2015 surrounded by his family.
Edward was born on the 22nd of Oct. 1920 in Galveston, Texas to Dr. Albert O. Singleton and Will Dean Bivens Singleton. A proud "B.O.I." (Born On the Island), Edward had a happy childhood which he shared with his older brother Albert junior. He attended Ball High School, where he was voted Best Boy Dancer! Growing up he was passionate about baseball, climbing trees, spending time with friends and horseback riding on the beach.
After high school, Edward graduated from the University of Texas in Austin where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity as were his father and brother. He was a die-hard Longhorn fan throughout his life and loved everything UT related. He then went on to Medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha - a national honor society for medical students. Here he began pursuing his dream of becoming a physician. Like many young men of his age, Edward longed to serve his country during World War II. Much to his surprise and dismay he was told that he, along with ten percent of his medical school class were ineligible because of contracting tuberculosis. After finishing his residency, he was drafted and served in the Air Force while based in Alaska. Edward had hoped to follow in his father's and brother's footsteps and become a surgeon but because of his TB diagnosis, he was advised that surgery would be too demanding. He instead chose radiology and in 1953 became Chief of Radiology at two new combined hospitals being built in Houston - Texas Children's Hospital and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. He became Professor of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine and a short time later became Professor of Radiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Edward has been awarded numerous honors and accolades throughout his illustrious career. These include among others- a 1980 recipient of UTMB's Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award ~ the university's highest medical alumni honor. In 1991 the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists awarded him the Walter B. Cannon medal for his outstanding contributions to the field, and in 1992 he was recognized by St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital as a Distinguished Physician and was presented with an endowed chair in his name. In 1995, he was presented the Radiological Society of North America's highest honor, the Gold Medal, given for long and outstanding service and for his pioneering work in pediatric radiology. In addition, he has received the gold medal from the Texas Radiology Society, the American Roentgen Ray Society, The American College of Radiology and the Society of Pediatric Radiology.
Edward was blessed with two loving wives; his first wife Selwyn Rayzor Singleton with whom he had three children; Evelyn Winifred Singleton, Edward Newton Singleton and Dean Renfert Singleton. In 1967 he married the love of his life Margaret Ann Renfroe and had two children; Ann Field Singleton and Scott Renfroe Singleton. Edward was a man of the highest integrity and strongest moral character. He was a devoted husband and father, a dedicated teacher, a humble leader, an encouraging mentor and a loyal friend. He was known to all who loved him by his quick wit and fun loving sense of humor. He was an animated storyteller with a sharp memory that could recall even the smallest details from years gone by. He loved the Lord and would say that the one thing in this world that no one could ever take away from you was your faith so you must always hold tight to that faith. He loved to share his heart whether it was with his adoring family or with his students through his passion of teaching. His amazing life and stories will forever be in the memories of the many people that were so deeply touched by him.
He was an active member of River Oaks Country Club where he enjoyed many years of tennis; a passion for golf and Sunday family dinners. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time at the family's ranch in Cat Spring, Texas. Weekends at the ranch found Edward doing all the things he loved… fishing, riding his tractor and bulldozer, feeding the cows, mowing the grass and cutting the huisache, riding his horse Mr. Ringo, picking the perfect peach off the tree, enjoying a swim on a hot summer day, relaxing by the fire with a martini on a cold winter night, playing board games with his family while making up his own rules as he went along and gazing at the stars in a vast Texas sky. The ranch held a special place in his heart and was a nice weekend escape from the city life that was home.
Edward is survived by his three children, Dean Singleton and his wife Peggy, Ann Singleton and Scott Singleton; his seven grandchildren - Hallie and her husband John, Cara and her husband Jimmy, John and his wife Corinne, Kit, Ella Scott, Reese and Tyler and five great grandchildren - Jack, Lucy, Wylder, Oliver and Milo; first cousin Judge John V. Singleton, jr. and his wife Pat; nephew Albert O. Singleton III and his wife Ann and their children and grandchildren; nieces Beth Cooperman and her husband Bob, Gail Welpley and her husband Mike and their children and grandchildren.
The family is blessed beyond measure for the life and legacy of Edward B. Singleton. His sweet spirit and kind soul will continue to shine brightly through all those who knew and loved him. We will miss him dearly but find comfort knowing he is at peace in his eternal home sweet home. We would like to express our sincerest thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and medical caregivers of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital who lovingly cared for our dad over the past month.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Dr. Singleton during a reception from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 22nd of January, in grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 23rd of January, in the sanctuary of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Rev. Bill Denham, Pastor of Caring Ministries and the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall are to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at the River Oaks Country Club.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in memory of Dr. Singleton may be directed to the Edward B. Singleton M.D. Chair of Pediatric Radiology at Texas Children's Hospital, 1919 South Braeswood Blvd., Ste. 5214, Houston, TX, 77030, online at waystogive.texaschildrens.org/singleton; or to University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, Development Office, 301 University Blvd, Galveston, TX, 77555.

Smesny, Aloisie (Dudik) (6 Dec 1860 - 25 Mar 1914)
Family- Spouse: Anton Smesny Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: GenFolks
Aloisie was a native of Kostelec u Stipia in Moravia, which at that time was part of the Empire of Austria.
Aloisie Dudik married Anton Smesny in 1879 in Stipske, Moravia. They were the parents of 10 children; seven of which lived to maturity. Their oldest child, Frantiska, was born May 23, 1880, in Kostelec u Stipia, and she died in December of 1880. Their sixth child, Marie Smesny, was born January 4, 1891, and their seventh child, Anton Smesny, was born August 20, 1893. Marie and Anton both died in a diptheria epidemic in 1895.
Aloisie's huband, Anton Smesny, was a fireman. His date of birth was March 25, 1853, and he died of pneumonia on Oct. 26, 1905, in Kostelec u Stipia, Moravia.
In 1900, Anton and Aloisie Smesny's oldest and youngest daughters, Filomena and Frantiska, left Moravia for Texas. Jan Pavlicek of Frydek, Texas, had written the Smesny Family and advised that he needed the girls to help on his farm. Filomena, who was 18, and Frantiska, who was 14, left on the ship, SS HALLE, for Texas. The middle daughter, Aloisie, remained in Kostelec as she was needed at home. In 1909, the oldest son, Frank Smesny, left Moravia on the ship SS KOLN, to join his sisters in Texas.
By 1912, Aloisie Smesny had made the decision to take the rest of her family to Texas. Aloisie had her sons, Teodor, Joe V., and Ludvik, and her daughter, Aloisie, and husband, Joe Hradil, and Aloisie and Joe Hradil's children, Hermina and Josef, with her in Kostelec. Aloisie Smesny's son-in-law, Josef Hradil, kept a journal of the family's trip to Texas. Josef Hradil wrote that on the morning of March 31, 1912, the Smesny and Hradil Families bid farewell to the neighbors and kin in Kostelec and traveled by wagon to the railway station in Zlin where they boarded a passenger train to Otrokovice, and at Otrokovice, they boarded a train which took them to the north.
On April 1, 1912, Josef Hradil wrote that they went through a medical inspection at Ratibou, and the health officials held Teodor Smesny back because he showed signs of the mumps. Teodor Smesny returned to Kostelec where he stayed with his uncle, Rudolf Smesny.
On April 3, 1912, Josef Hradil wrote that they arrived in Bremen, Germany, where they again went through medical inspections. On the morning of April 4, the family traveled by train to the Bremen harbor where they boarded the steamship, SS HANOVER. At half past noon, the siren of the steamship sounded and the ship started to move slowly out of the harbor, thus began the family's voyage to America.
Aloisie Smesny's son, Joe V. Smesny, would tell his family that several days into their voyage, one evening, the whistles of a large ship could be heard so everyone went on deck to see what ship it was. A quarter-of-a-mile away was the RMS TITANIC. The TITANIC was moving at a fast speed, and the ship looked so bright and beautiful in the twilight that young Joe V. and his brother Ludvik told their mother how much they wished they could be traveling on that beautiful ship. They watched the TITANIC until the ship disappeared into the horizon. The waves caused by the TITANIC's wake caused a great deal of rocking on the Smesny's small steamship.
Josef Hradil wrote in his journal that on April 12, at 8 a.m., the steamship, SS HANOVER, received a telegraphic message to avoid one certain path since there was a big danger due to large icebergs, so the ship turned to the left. On the morning of April 13, a large iceberg could be seen from the steamship, and Josef Hradil wrote that it was so large that it looked like a castle floating on the sea.
Josef Hradil also recorded in his journal that the SS HANOVER had received a distress message from RMS TITANIC as that ship had struck an iceberg and was sinking. However, the HANOVER was too far away to have reached the TITANIC's location in time. It is said that when the news of the TITANIC's sinking reached the HANOVER that Aloisie Smesny turned to her sons, Joe V. and Ludvik, and told them that they had better be glad they had not been on that ship, or they would now be at the bottom of the ocean.
On April 17, 1912, the SS HANOVER approached the harbor of Philadelphia. More medical inspections followed after the steamship docked at Philadelphia, but the passengers stayed on board ship. The HANOVER remained in Philadelphia's harbor until April 20, when it set off for Galveston, Texas. Josef Hradil wrote in his journal that as the ship passed through the Florida Keys that the island of Cuba could be seen in the distance.
The HANOVER docked at the port of Galveston on April 26, 1912. They family stayed on board ship one more night. On the morning of April 27, more medical examinations came. In the immigration medical records, Aloisie Smesny's physical description is given as 5'3" in height, with a fair complexion, blond hair, and gray eyes. Aloisie named her son-in-law, Alois Peska, as her contact person in Texas, and gave their point of destination as Sealy, Texas.
Afterward, the passengers gathered their possessions and passed through customs when the unthinkable happened. Aloisie Smesny was sitting in a room alone when a man dressed in a police uniform came in and told her in very fluent Czech that if she had any money or jewelry that he would hold them for her or she would be taxed as she went through customs. Since this man spoke very fluent Czech, Aloisie trusted him to be a fellow countryman. Aloisie gave the man $300 in cash. After she went through customs, Aloisie went to look for this man, but he was nowhere to be found. A hard beginning in a new land of promise.
After customs, Josef Hradil wrote that the family was met with a carriage by his three brothers-in-law, Frank Smesny, Alois Peska, and Peter Jalowy. The family went to a hotel that belonged to Frantisek Kuizanovskz, a country-man, where they had lunch and a toast to their reunion. At 5 p.m., the family boarded a train in Galveston, and at 10 p.m, the family arrived in Sealy where they were met by Smesny daughters, Frances Peska and Filomena Jalowy.
They arrived at the Peska home in the nearby community of Frydek very late that night, but had to get up early the next morning to go work in the fields. The Peskas loaned Aloisie money with the agreement that Aloisie, Joe V., and Ludvik, would help with the work on the farm. Young Ludik and Joe V. had never chopped cotton before, and it did not take long before the two boys decided they wanted to return to Europe!
Aloisie and her sons, Joe V. and Ludvik, lived with the Peska Family until Aloisie rented a farm near Beasley, in Fort Bend County, Texas, where she moved her sons. Determined to pay back her loan and not being conditioned to the hot, humid climate of the Texas Gulf Coast, Aloisie Smesny worked hard in the fields, but suffered a heat stroke which greatly affected her mobility.
On September 11, 1913, Aloisie's son, Teodore Smesny, arrived in Texas when his ship, the SS BRESLAU, docked in Galveston. Teodore made his way to Austin County where he went to work as a field hand. Teodor said he only was only able to see his mother twice after he arrived in Texas.
Nearly two years after her arrival in Texas, Aloisie Smesny died at the age of 53 years from complications of the heat stroke she had suffered. Young Ludvik Smesny, who was only 12, and Joe V., who was nearly 15, tried to farm the land on their own that their mother had rented, but eventually gave up and hired themselves out as farm hands.

Smesny, Melvin Charles (7 Jan 1941 - 20 Feb 2021)

Veteran: Vietnam, SP4, US Army Family- Father: Charles Anton Smesny, Mother: Sedona Marie “Sidney” Marek, Spouse: Larue Cemetery: Houston National Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Melvin Charles Smesny was born January 7, 1941 and left this earth February 20, 2021.
He is survived by his beloved wife Larue Smesny, daughters Kimberly and Megan Smesny, and his three grandchildren Chase, Jacob and Emily Smesny. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Sidney Smesny, and Sisters Loretta Smesny and Charlene Buss.
He now celebrates in being reunited with his grandparents, and all his uncles, aunts, cousins and friends that went before him to prepare for his homecoming with the Lord.
He spent his school years in Sealy, TX, where he attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and later graduated from Sealy High School.
He went on to serve three years in the United States Army and later moved to Houston with his parents.
His career started at Schill Steel Services as a dispatcher and later operations manager, where he met his wife of 45 years and after over 25 years of devoted service retired to be a full time pawpaw. He was a devout catholic, serving as an altar boy for many years and worked with his wife as ministers in preparing numerous families in the sacrament of baptism. He was very proud of his Czech heritage, an avid supporter for Houston Sports teams, a dedicated fisherman and he made sure to pass that pride onto his children and grandchildren. As much as he enjoyed fishing, tackle, boating and teaching his skills to others, he was the only fisherman who would not eat what he caught. Because of his love of bar-b-queuing, Melvin would put just about anything on the pit and passed that love on to his grandsons. He graciously collected artwork created by his granddaughter and displayed them proudly along with tons of pictures he took throughout the years in frames on his walls.
He loved his family beyond anything he ever did. No vacation, dinner out, birthday or celebration was ever spend without them. Although he has been wheelchair and bedridden for a while, his last week was spent making sure his family was safe and finally at home after the historic Houston snow storm, before he finally closed his own eyes to rest one last time. Melvin collected many names over his lifetime such as husband, dad, pawpaw, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be remembered for his meaningful conversations, firm handshakes, butterfly kisses and gentle heart. Sometime in the future when someone says that they miss our father or wish he was still around, as his daughters and grandchildren, we hope to say you are looking right at him because we are living the legacy he left behind.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support and outreach of kind words during this difficult time. Melvin loved supporting military events such as Wreaths Across America and we ask that you would please consider donating in his name.

Stade, Betty Ruth (Cook) (12 Jan 1946 - 16 Dec 2024)
Family- Father: Jesse Lee Cook, Jr, Mother: Irma Ruth Wilson, Spouse: Wilfred Henry Jurecek; Clifford Lynn Stade, Children: Mark Jurecek, Michael Jurecek, Kelley Sauer, Kristi Margeson, Kimberly Kunz Cemetery: San Felipe de Austin Cemetery References: GenFolks
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Betty Ruth Cook Stade, who went to be with the Lord at 2:22 AM on Monday, December 16, 2024. Her final days were spent at Country Village Care in Angleton, Texas at the age of 78 years old. Betty was born on January 12, 1946, in Hempstead, Texas, to Jesse Lee Cook Jr. and Irma Ruth Wilson Cook, and was the older sister of Patricia Lee Cook Stein.
Betty’s life was one of love, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family. Growing up in San Felipe, Texas, she was a proud graduate of Sealy High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. She immersed herself in school activities, from playing the clarinet in the band to performing in school plays. Her dedication to her passions continued as she pursued her education in nursing and business, laying the foundation for supporting her family. Betty worked with care and commitment at Lowman/Fazio Chiropractic Clinic, Richmond State School, and the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD), where she retired after many years of service as an Administrative Assistant, handling accounting and secretarial responsibilities.
Betty’s greatest joy, however, was always her family. After high school, she married Wilfred Henry Jurecek and together they raised four children: Mark and his wife Kelley Jurecek, Micheal and his wife Misty Jurecek, Kelley and her husband Stephen Sauer, and Kristi and her husband Rob Margison. Later in life, Betty married Clifford Lynn Stade, with whom she had another child, Kimberly, and her husband Karl Kunz. Betty was a proud grandmother to her many grandchildren: Kristina, Matthew, and Madison Jurecek; Haley and her husband Jacob Sedlar and Zachary Jurecek; Conner and Kylie Sauer; Kinley and Kamryn Margison; Trista and Bo Martinez, and Karly Kunz. She was blessed with one great grandson Nolan Sedlar. Her family was her heart, and she poured boundless love into them.
In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Betty embraced a variety of hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She loved bowling, gardening, cooking, and sewing; nurturing those around her with her hands and heart. She had a special love for canning, and her time spent tending to her yard brought her peace. Betty’s fun-loving nature shone through in her love for country music and dancing, always adding fun to her life. She had a special affection for cats and treasured the moments spent with her loved ones, especially during family holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, when she was surrounded by her entire family filling her heart with love and joy.
Betty found comfort in simpler pleasures like sewing, reading, watching cooking/romantic/detective shows and movies. She had a gentle, welcoming spirit that was reflected in her warm smile and the joy she found in sharing life’s little moments with others.
As a devoted family person, Betty had a profound connection to her hometown of San Felipe. She was a dedicated member of the San Felipe Methodist Church, where she learned to play the piano, sang, and attended Sunday School. Her love for her family and the church was a testament to her deep sense of community and service. It is fitting that Betty’s journey has now brought her back to a place filled with precious memories, where her spirit will continue to resonate.
A visitation will be held in Betty’s honor at the San Felipe Methodist Church, a Global Methodist Congregation, located at 201 Vicaro Guerrero, San Felipe, Texas, on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM. The church service will begin at 11:00 AM. Followed by a burial procession to the San Felipe de Austin Cemetery, 4902 Camp Santo St., San Felipe, Texas. After we would love for you to join us back at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, where friends and family can gather and share stories of Betty’s remarkable life.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Country Village Care and Greatwood of Sugarland for their loving care and companionship during Betty’s final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Betty’s memory be made to the San Felipe Methodist Church, PO Box 149, San Felipe, TX 77473.
Betty’s legacy of love, kindness, wittiness, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Stastny, Cacey Renee (Corder) (7 Sep 1986 - 10 Apr 2024)
Family- Father: Rick Corder, Mother: Cindy, Spouse: Cyril "Bubba" Stastny Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: GenFolks
Cacey Renee Stastny, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away on the morning of April 10, 2024. She was a beautiful and loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt who made every day special for those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Cacey was born in Houston on September 7, 1986. She had fond memories of growing up in the city, with many neighborhood friends, starting gymnastics tumbling classes at an early age, and having her aunt Cha-Cha nearby to see almost every day. In the early 90's the family moved to Singapore for 6 months. That would be the start of her love of traveling which carried on throughout her life. Shortly after returning from Singapore, the family moved to Sealy in the Summer of ‘94, her Mother's hometown.
Cacey thrived in Sealy. Having so many family members in town made the transition feel like home instantly. Family cookouts at the land, cousins she got to know and grow close with, and just spending time at home with her friends by the pool made her so happy. She excelled at school, was a part of a competition gymnastics team, cheerleader, and was a member of the track & field team. Along the way, she would meet her future husband Cyril (or Bubba as he is known). The two met in high school and would later marry in front of a gorgeous setting in Breckenridge Colorado on October 22, 2011. Before that, they both attended and graduated from Texas A&M University. She was loyal to her beloved Aggie sports teams and attended as many games as she could. Cacey was so proud of her Aggie ring and you would never see her without it. She was also a rabid Astros fan.
Cacey and Cyril made a great life for themselves. First living in Austin where they both worked. They enjoyed their time there taking in all the sights and fun the town had to offer. While in Austin they welcomed their Pomeranians, Jordi and Quinn into the family. Cacey loved her puppies like children. If one sneezed…off to the vet! Eventually, they moved to Katy to be closer to family. Visiting Cacey at her house was always a joy. She loved to cook, and her specialties were her desserts (especially cheesecake), but also her homemade pasta and other Italian dishes. Homemade pizza from the pizza oven would always bring the whole family together on the weekends. Cacey and Cyril would travel as often as they could, not only throughout the US, but they would take several trips to Europe. Cacey's favorite places to visit were Salzburg Austria and Tuscany. She loved everything about the European culture; the food, the wine, the people, hiking the mountains, and the local traditions. She also had a love for the outdoors and especially hitting the slopes. She and Cyril were able to visit and ski at some of the most beautiful places in the US, Canada and Europe. Even with all the fun of traveling, she was always the happiest at home with her family. Just a wonderful person who would do anything to make sure everyone was taken care of.
Cacey was preceded in death by her mother, Cindy Corder, and her aunt, Charlene (ChaCha) Schneider. She is survived by her husband Cyril Stastny; father Rick Corder; brother Christian Corder and wife Janna; nieces and nephews Ellis and Cade Corder, Bellamy and Beckett White; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Although it was a life too short, Cacey was able to make such an important impact on the lives of others. The family asks that we remember her for her smile, her laugh, her kindness and all the wonderful times we were able to spend together.

Mr. S. was a German by birth, but had been a citizen of this county for about thirty years. He was an honest, upright and industrious farmer who was highly respected by his neighbors. Mr. Sterns, although apparently as healthy a man as could be found, was afflicted with heart disease and was frequently heard to say that he might drop off at any time. On the evening of his death he was in his apparent usual robust health and was playing with one of his grandchildren; he asked for a glass of water, but before it could be brought fell to the floor and expired. he leaves several grown children and a number of grand children. Stolarski, Florianna "Flora" (Bonkowski) (24 Mar 1937 - 11 Feb 2023)
Family- Father: Venceslaw Bonkowski, Mother: Anastasia Gurka, Spouse: Carl Andrew John Stolarski Jr., Children: Mark Stolarski; David Stolarski Cemetery: Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Sealy) References: GenFolks
Florianna (Flora) Stolarski passed quietly in her sleep on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in Sealy at the age of 85 after enjoying several days of visits from family and friends.
Florianna Bonkowski Stolarski was born in Lockhart, Texas, on March 24, 1937, to parents Venceslaw Henry and Anastasia (Nancy) Gurka Bonkowski.
When she was 3-years-old, her family moved to Brenham. While Flora was in the first grade, she unknowingly met her future husband, Carl, who was in the second grade. Carl and his family moved away, and 14 years later in 1957, Flora and Carl met at a dance and fell in love.
On June 27, 1959, Flora married Carl J. Stolarski, Jr., at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Texas. The happy couple moved to Sealy where they raised their family and resided for the rest of their years.
Flora is survived by two sons, Mark Stolarski of Sealy and David Stolarski and his wife Christina of Chappell Hill and two grandsons, Derek Allen Stolarski and Luke Michael Stolarski of Chappell Hill. She is also survived by two sisters, Eleanora (Nora) and husband Kenneth Kettler of Brenham and Blanche Snow of Houston, along with several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Benjamin Stolarski of Sealy, Pat and Ralph Stolarski of Sugarland, Pam and Richard Stolarski of Flatonia, and Betty Stolarski of Schulenburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flora was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 54 years, Carl J. Stolarski, Jr., brother Walter John Bonkowski, her parents Henry and Nancy Bonkowski, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Clara and Leonard Stolarski.
Along with being a full-time housewife and mother, Flora found great enjoyment in babysitting for 25 years, and enjoyed seeing the children she helped raise when they were older. She was also known for her delicious homemade pies and pickles.
Flora has been a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy for over 63 years, where she was also a member of the Altar Society, the Catholic Union of Texas (the KJT), and Catholic Women's Union of Texas (the KJZT), and is a supporting member of the Austin County Peace Officers Association. She is a retired member of the Sealy Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary with 23½ years of service and a former member of the Sealy American Legion Auxiliary Unit 442. Her love for her sons showed in her work with youth as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, assisting her husband as a scorekeeper while he coached PeeWee and Minor League baseball teams, and being active in the Parent Teachers Club (PTC) at Immaculate Conception Catholic School, the Sealy Booster Club, and the Sealy Band Boosters. Flora worked as a cook for Immaculate Conception Catholic School until it closed. She also enjoyed the “31 Clubâ€, which was a group of women that would meet monthly to play cards while their husbands went to the Knights of Columbus meetings.
Flora absolutely loves being “Grandma†to Derek and Luke, talking about them every day, and we know she is smiling down on them from Heaven. She always looked forward to dinner with her family. She also loves dancing polkas with her husband and playing 42 (dominoes), winning numerous trophies at tournaments in this area of the state. Together, they enjoyed playing bingo and taking the busses to the casinos in Louisiana. And we are all sure Flora is dancing polkas and playing dominoes in Heaven with Carl, who she loves dearly.
In lieu of flowers, Flora asked that memorial donations be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy, Sealy Christian Food Pantry, or Meals on Wheels of Austin County (in Sealy).

Obituary Notice of Angelina Weeks Swearingen from Bellville Times, October 19, 1883
Death of a Veteran
Again is the Times called upon to chronicle one of those deaths that removed from our midst one of the first way marks of Texas history.
In 1831, fifty two years ago, Mrs. Angelina Swearingen and her young husband located on a farm near what is now Millheim, she being the first white woman to take up a home in that settlement. For more than the allotted life of man she has lived on that first place of her choice. Here was spent the young manhood and womanhood of Mr. & Mrs. Swearingen; here they passed through the stirring scenes of the Texas struggle for independence, writing their own names indelibly on the pages of Texas history. Here passed the prime and vigor of their lives, here clustered around them a family of children, now settled in their homes, and here, as old age came on, they peacefully awaited the call to go to the mysterious and unknown beyond.
To Mrs. Swearingen the call came last Thursday morning at 1 o'clock , October 17, 1883 .
In the silent hours of the night she died, as she had lived, surrounded by friends who loved, respected, and admired her for her kind heart, her many virtues, and her native intelligence. The sorrow of the bereaved is tempered by the reflection that the departed had lived out her full time, that she had done her work, and done it well, and that she leaves the world much the better for her having lived in it. She was a devoted Christian, an humble and sincere follower of the meek and lowly Saviour and we are assured that already she has been greeted with the welcome plaudit, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter then into the joys of thy Lord."
Swearingen, Elemelech, Sr (28 Sep 1805 - 15 May 1887)

Veteran: Early Wars,Tx Rev, 1836 War of Texas Independence Family- Father: Samuel Swearingen, Mother: Margaret Payton, Spouse: Angelina Weeks Cemetery: Swearingen Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Elemelech was born in Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky to Samuel and Margaret Payton Swearingen on September 25, 1805. He married Angelina Weeks. They together with his brother and parents came to Texas in 1831 and settled in what is now Austin County. They were the first Anglo-Americans to settle at that place.
Elemelech enlisted with the Army of the Republic of Texas on March 1 serving as a 2nd Sg't. of Company ‘B' of the 1st Regiment of Infantry under Capt. Amasa Turner. With so many soldiers from all over the country thrown into close quarters, a measles epidemic broke out, and an emergency ""hospital"" was set up at Groce's plantation. When Houston moved his army to San Jacinto, those who were too sick were left there. Elemelech was one of those who was left behind.
Six year later, when a Mexican army invaded Texas, in 1842, and hostages from San Antonio were taken, Sam Houston sent out a force to enter Mexico and bring back some prisoners in order to make an exchange. This became the ill-fated Mier Expedition. Elemelech was left in charge of the camp guard to protect their equipment while the main force crossed the Rio Grande and entered the Mexican town of Mier. Because of this Elemelech avoided capture and imprisonment.
