Bogar, Jan "John" (19 Nov 1892 - 5 Aug 1946)

Veteran: WW1 Family- Father: Martin Bogar, Mother: Rosalie Sula, Spouse: Annie Kutra; Karolina Kristina “Carrie” Rothbauer Cemetery: Frydek Catholic Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
Jan was born in Hovezi, Vsetin District, Czech Republic. Jan had to remain in the Czech Republic to serve his military obligations along with his older brother, Josef Bogar. Jan and Josef wasn't able to come with their parents, Rosalia Sula and Martin Bogar, their sister, Anna, and younger brother, Pavel to Texas in 1911. Jan first arrived in Boston, Mass. about 1921, and than traveled to Texas. Brother, Josef, decided to go back to the Czech Republic.
Jan married Annie Kutra, a daughter of Anna Vesely and John Kutra, on February 10, 1925 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Frydek, Austin County, Texas. They had children, Albina, Ludmilla " Lillie", and Louis " Bo". Unfortunately, Annie died soon after Louis was born June 3, 1931 from postpartum hemorrhage. Jan realized that he would be unable to take care of his three young children and bring in the cotton crop. So Annie's parents took care of baby Louis, and three year old Lillie. The oldest, Albina, five years old, was taken care of by Albina Kutra and Frank Vancik.
Jan learned of a single lady from Moulton, Karolina " Carrie" Rothbauer, and soon married her on August 1, 1932. Their marriage license was filed in Austin County, Texas. Jan was able to bring all his children together again. They lived in Moulton for a few years. On June 15, 1934, Jan and Karolina had twins born in the Shiner Hospital, which was the first set of twins born in that hospital. Frances and Frank joined the growing family. Sometime in 1937, Jan decided to move the family back to the Frydek area to be near his first wife's family and his father, Martin, and brother, Paul, and his family.
Jan died in 1946 at home in Frydek from a brain aneurysm . Carrie and the children had to bring in the crops. By this time, the oldest daughter, Albina, had married on February 12, 1947, and living with her husband on the Mlcak farm. Late 1949, Carrie married her brother in law, Paul, who was a widower. Approximately eight months later, Paul died in 1950 from a brain aneurysm, also.

Family- Father: Charles “Charlie” Zachas, Mother: Annie Doernbraack, Spouse: Leonard Ida Abel & Raymond Fritz Bosse Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
The Sealy News, October 13, 2017:
Lillie Mae Abel Bosse died Oct. 9, 2017 in Bellville, Texas at the age of 102. Lillie was born on Feb. 6, 1915 to Annie and Charlie Zachas in Cat Spring, Texas. She was confirmed and served as a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. She was married to Leonard Ida Abel on April 26, 1932 until his death on Oct. 12, 1971.
On Dec. 1, 1979, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas, she married Raymond Bosse, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2011. Lillie met both Leonard and Raymond at the Coshatta Agriculture Society Hall dance where she loved to polka and waltz.
Lillie attended the Cleveland Community School and frequently reminded the younger generations that she rode a horse to school and spoke primarily German. Although she spent the majority of her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker, she also worked in retail and floral shops as well as a sitter at the hospital to provide care for others.
Some of her favorite things to do included playing dominoes, gardening, cooking, baking, and looking through cookbooks for new recipes. Recipe clippings from newspapers and magazines filled her recipe books and several drawers in her kitchen. It was not unusual to come to her home and hear her say, "I made a new cake recipe today. I want you to try it. Let's have some coffee." This usually accompanied a game of 88, 80, 42, or straight dominoes. Gardening vegetables, planting pretty flowers, and canning were other labors of love that she enjoyed. She liked having a pretty yard and gave her plants personalities. When cold weather approached, she would often comment that she felt sorry for the plants and needed to get them inside "before they got cold." Or she'd water them and say that they "looked a lot happier."
Most of all, Lillie enjoyed being with family and friends. Whenever her children and grandchildren called her to make arrangements for an outing or dinner, she always responded, "I'll have my shoes on." On Oct. 9 at 8:13 a.m., the Lord called for Lillie to join Him in heaven and she responded, "I am ready. I have my shoes on."
Lillie's legacy spans five generations. She is survived by her four children, Charles Abel, Travis Abel and wife, Diane, Dolores Fojt, and Joy Mahaffey; as well as stepson, Don Bosse and wife, Adrienne, and step-daughter-in-law, Carol Bosse; twelve grandchildren, Debra Horwedel and husband, Ken, Loyce Pacher, Patti Sebesta and husband, Carl, Leonard "Buddy" Fojt and wife, Cheryl, Kathy Patrick-Maxwell and husband, Jamie, Scott Abel and wife, Wanda, Terri Nelson and husband, Donald, Jason Abel, Kristi Tindall and husband, Lance, McDavid (Mac) Mahaffey and his wife, Mary Ellen, Matthew (Bill) Mahaffey and wife, Alexandra, John Mahaffey and wife, Candace. Also included are her step-grandchildren, Jason Bosse and wife, Kim, Kyle Bosse and wife, Lauren, Sharon Lin and husband, Jesse, Susan Vasquez and husband, Erik. Funeral services for Charles William "C.W." Brandes, 86, of Sealy were held Feb. 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Sealy, with Rev. John Tyler officiating. Interment was at the Sealy Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mason, Stacy, Darren, Jeff, Nicolas and Stephen Brandes, Tyler Mazac, Benn Copeland and Trey Copeland. Honorary pallbearers were Jim O'Neil, Gary Ray, Max Chesshir and Charles Brandes.
Charles William Brandes, also fondly known as "C.W.", was born at the home of his parents in Burleigh. He was the eldest child of four children born to Fritz and Hermina Brandes. His brother was Owen Otto and sisters were Leah Virginia and Vivian Janette. He grew up in the Burleigh farming community and attended elementary school at Roach Prairie School, followed by graduation from Bellville High School.
Following graduation, Charles worked as a line foreman with the LCRA. He then managed a service station in Bellville, at which time he married Lillie Schubert from Sealy.
They resided in Bellville and were blessed with the birth of their first son, Charles Waddel. They moved with their infant son to the Hacienda community into a small, one bedroom house on the property that eventually became their permanent home on Grubbs Road in Sealy. They resided there for the remainder of their lives. During the following years, they had a daughter, Carol Joy, and two more sons, Jack William and Bruce Jerome.
Charles farmed cotton, corn and milo, baled hay, ran a dairy and helped his father-in-law, Max Schubert, at his cotton gin. He was interested in improving the profession of milk producers and served as secretary of the American Milk Producers Incorporated. He raised registered Guernsey dairy cows and showed these cattle at various dairy days and county fairs across Texas. He also won Grand Champion Heifer at the Houston Livestock Show.
Later, after retiring from the dairy, he transitioned into ranching. Charles worked extremely hard to provide for his family and loved the land and his surrounding community. He was deeply devoted to his church, the First United Methodist Church in Sealy, where he served on the Lord's Acre/Hour Program, Methodist Men's Club and as a church board member.
In addition to his family and church, he was one of the founding fathers of the Austin County Fair Association, holding the office of fair president for many years and ending his tenure as fair manager. He was tremendously proud of the fair, and its growth, development and increased opportunities for the youth of the county. Relevant to the fair, he supported the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving as chairman of the Austin County Go Texan Committee and chairman of the Hay Hauling Contest.
During these years, Charles and his wife, Lillie, were members of the Austin County Square Dance Team on Horseback and the Austin County Emergency Unit. Community involvement did not end with his church, fair and rodeo.
He was highly involved with his three sons in the Boy Scouts of America, during which time he achieved the Silver Beaver Award, served on the District Committee of the David Crockett District and was scout master to many in Sealy Troup 557. The boys remember many trips to El Rancho Cima, Camp Strake and his own campsite on the Mill Creek for scout camp-outs and jubilees.
In addition to his involvement in scouts, he served on the Austin County School Board. This board governed the county rural schools prior to their incorporation into the Sealy and Bellville School Districts. He was a member of the parent teacher association, served on the Millcreek Drainage District and was involved with the Austin County Gun Club, Order of the Sons of Hermann and Woodmen of the World.
Throughout the years, Charles was loved by many friends and family, spent many hours with them hunting, fishing, barbecuing, and playing cards and dominos. He was a loving husband, devoted father and faithful friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz Charles and Hermina Brandes; brother, Owen Otto Brandes; and sister, Leah Virginia Brandes McCamy.

Charles William Brandes was dearly loved and looked up to by his grandchildren, who called him, "Poppa". There are many stories they have shared over and over about their "Poppa" that will keep them laughing for hours.
He gave them one of the best gifts in life - his time. They all helped him on his farm at one time or another. He had many funny sayings, such as "root hog or die" during meals and told stories of riding his horse, Rosenwassa, to school while getting involved in many escapades.
They remember one special saying he taught them: "A man is as good as his word." He survived many animal attacks and farm injuries, turning each incident into a funny story for his grandchildren. He was their John Wayne and Rambo all rolled into one. He will remain a vivid memory in the lives of all his family members forever.

THE FAMILY REMEMBERS
By MARY HOGAN, SEALY NEWS Staff Writer
Waddel Brandes still remembers the marble his father, Charles William "C.W." Brandes used to carry in his pocket.
"The golden rule was on the marble - 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,' Waddel Brandes said.
And throughout his life, C.W. did just that, dedicating his time to serving his community and family.
C.W. Brandes, 86, passed away Jan. 28 in Brookshire.
He leaves behind a legacy of building up his community, having served for 40 years with the Austin County Fair Association as one of the founders, among other commitments.
His daughter-in-law, Sharon Brandes, still remembers how C.W. began the tradition of bringing big-name talent to the Austin County Fair.
He had an eye for stars from the very beginning. She looked forward to his return every year from the convention where he would book musical talent.
One year, C.W. came back with the news that a new country artist would perform at the county fair.
"And I can remember saying, 'I've never heard of him,' and he said, ‘Well, you wait and see he's up and coming and he's going to be big,'" she said.
And C.W. was right. A week before the fair, that new country artist - Garth Brooks - won the Country Music Association's Horizon Award for best new artist.
It was his ability - and willingness - to get things done that made him a leader, according to Waddel Brandes.
"He was the kind of person who would leave an impression," he said. "He was a doer, he would get up and get things done. He never complained.
"He was a good leader," he added. "Whenever he got involved in a group or organization, he generally wound up being the president or secretary."
And he encouraged his family to take an active role in the community, as well.
Sharon Brandes remembers when he asked her to take over the responsibility of coordinating the Austin County Fair Parade. She agreed and spent 19 years working to make the parade a success.
As a Boy Scout volunteer, he also tried to impress those values of supporting one's community on the youth of the county.
For his efforts, he earned the Silver Beaver, which is the highest honor bestowed on a Scout volunteer, according to his son, Bruce Brandes.
"He wanted the best for Austin County," Bruce Brandes said. "He wanted to see everybody succeed. He really took to heart the youth of Austin County."
Along with working to make the community better, C.W. also spent time working to make his family strong.
"He was always doing something for somebody," Bruce Brandes said. "He valued his friendship. He valued his family. He was a terrifically honest person and was always honest in his dealings with everybody. That's one thing I got from him was honesty."
And there were other life lessons Bruce picked up from his father along the way, as well.
"Work hard to get what you want. Don't talk bad about people. Give everybody the respect that they deserve - that's an important aspect in life in your dealings with people," he said.
"And be a responsible adult. Just be a good person - that was important to him and that's what he taught us," he added.
Those lessons led Bruce Brandes to join the U.S. Navy. C.W., who was very patriotic, couldn't have been more proud.
"He said, "Son, that's the best thing you could have done for yourself,'" Bruce said.
Family pride was important to C.W., who enjoyed family barbecues and get-togethers. His love of being around loved-ones rubbed off on Waddel Brandes, who still enjoys getting together for birthdays and other holidays. The presence of his father will be missed at those events, though.
"He was always somebody that you could discuss things with," Waddel said. "He was like a sounding board. He was somebody to sit down with and talk to about different ideas and opinions and I'll miss that."
Throughout his 86 years, C.W. Brandes lived through a lot: the Depression; the early days of automobiles when he drove a Ford Model T; and riding a horse to go to the Roach Prairie School, a small one-room school in the Burleigh community.
He served on the Austin County School Board, which served as the governing body of all the rural schools in the county, and later saw the consolidation of those small school districts into the present-day school districts of Brazos ISD, Sealy ISD and Bellville ISD.
He saw a man land on the moon, faithfully served as a member of First United Methodist Church of Sealy, married Lillie Schubert of Sealy, and raised a family of three sons and a daughter along with countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
"He was something else," Bruce Brandes said.

Obituary Lillie Brandes Lillie Willimae Schubert was born December 7th, 1923 in Sealy, Texas to Max and Dora Schubert. She grew up the youngest of four children, two sisters and one brother, in the Peter's Hacienda community about seven miles north of Sealy. Her father ran a cotton gin next to their home, where she and her siblings spent endless summer days playing to the constant thumping of the distinctive cotton gin engine.
Lillie was quite the free spirit. She loved dancing, music, writing, art, sewing and made straight "A's" all through school. Her senior year at Sealy High School, she met her true love, Charles William Brandes, from the Burleigh community near Bellville. They were married December 21st, 1940.
The following year, she gave Charles a son, Charles Waddel. They lived in a tiny house on a modest farm not far from her parents.
Charles (CW) built a dairy farm and raised all the food for their cattle. Waddel quickly learned to help.
Meanwhile, they built a larger home and were blessed with a daughter, Carol Joy, and then sons Jack William and Bruce Jerome.
Lillie was kept quite busy raising their children, keeping house, home cooking every meal, and supporting her husband who worked before dawn until after dark each day. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church - United Methodist Women, choir member, Choir Director, Harvest Festival Team and any place where a hand was needed.
She supported Charles as he served in the Austin County Fair, working in the fair office by his side each and every year, Peter's Hall Mother's Day Celebrations and many others. The Friendship Club was one of her fondest community involvements.
She and Charles were members of the Austin County Square Dance Team on Horseback as well as the Supper Club.
Lillie loved flowers. Her yard was gorgeous and she had the largest, most beautiful deep pink bougainvillea planted next to her garage that grew taller than she stood. She rooted many plants and shared them with others. Her name aptly reflects her passion for the pure beauty she found in her plants of many kinds.
She hunted and fished with Charles whenever time allowed. She was a fierce competitor, and often returned home with the largest trophy.
While her children were young, every Good Friday she had a family fishing event at their property on the Mill Creek. It was simple but much fun for the kids to see who could catch the largest perch.
When the children were older, they made many family fishing trips to Matagorda and Galveston and surrounding lakes. Lillie always, without fail, caught the largest fish. She always won.
When Bruce, the youngest, left home for the Navy, Lillie entered cosmetology school. She always took great pride in how her hair looked, and served the public as a beautician in Houston for over about ten years. She loved to tell funny stories of her co-workers and clients, and how nice it made her feel to serve them. Eventually, her children all married, and grandchildren came onto the scene.
She was re-named "Mom Mom" and Charles was re-named "Poppa". Very quickly the grandchildren knew they would always find cookies and other home made goodies when they went to visit Mom Mom and Poppa. They would sit for hours listening to Poppa's stories while Mom Mom happily kept bringing out goodies. She was well known around the neighborhood for her cinnamon rolls, cookies, and dozens and dozens of cakes. No one ever stepped into her home that they were not served her home made sweets She made a warm, comfortable home for all of them to come back to visit at any time.
Christmas, Easter and birthdays were always a great event. She never tired of it. She always longed for stories of what the children and grandchildren were doing. She loved the pictures and hand drawings they brought to her. Her refrigerator was so full of colored pictures and notes and traced hands. She loved them all - each and every one. Even after her beloved Charles passed away, she still had goodies waiting for who ever would visit. When she could no longer drive, her grocery list would always include ingredients to keep goodies in stock - just in case. Anyone's visit meant everything to her.
Lillie had a nasty bout with cancer. She became the ultimate example of the power of positive thinking. She kept repeating, "No, no! I'm going to be just fine. God is not ready for me, yet!" She was right. She always won. She instilled strong will and positive force within all her children. Everyone who knew her closely could see she was an eternal optimist and pillar of strength. No one ever heard her complain. It was her prayer that her children would carry this forward.
Lillie was preceded in death by parents, Max and Dora Schubert, sisters Birdie Schroeder and Mary Belle Yeamans, brother Roy Schubert, husband Charles William Brandes, and great grandson Ryeland Michael Brandes.
She is survived by sons Charles Waddel Brandes and wife Barbara, Jack William Brandes and wife Sharon, Bruce Jerome Brandes and wife Jacquelyn, daughter Carol Joy (Brandes) Ray and husband Gary; grandchildren Tracey (Brandes) O'Neil and husband Jim, Mason Brandes and fiancée Angela Leschper, Stacy Brandes and wife Karin, Darren Brandes and wife Cindy, Benn Copeland, Trey Copeland and wife Aimee, Jeff Brandes and wife Jennifer, Jody (Lezak) Chesshir and husband Max, Nicolas Brandes, Stephen Brandes and wife Heather; great-grandchildren Charley Brandes, Ashley (Brandes) Aguilar, Leah Brandes, Tyler Mazac, Jenna O'Neil, twins Mandie and Jamie O'Neil, Sydney Brandes, Joshua Brandes, Jarrett Brandes, Grayson Brandes, Hunter Thielemann, Kaden Thielemann, Claire Copeland, Grace Copeland, Ethan Copeland, Eva Copeland, Brennan Brandes, Breanna Brandes, Baylee Brandes, Lauren Chesshir, Madison Brandes; and great-great-grandchildren Brooklynn Aguilar, Lilliana Aguilar, and Madison Aguilar.
The family wishes to especially thank Mrs. Etta Hall for her loving kindness and care given to their mother during her lengthy illness. No gift is greater that the gift of love. Mrs. Etta, you are truly appreciated and loved.

Bretschneider, Charles William (1 May 1934 - 10 Feb 2020)
Family- Father: Walter Bretschneider, Mother: Leona Angela Luedecke, Spouse: Doris Louise Bishop Cemetery: Sealy Cemetery References: Findagrave, GenFolks
The Sealy News, February 19, 2020:
Charles William Bretschneider passed away on February 10, 2020 at his home in Sealy, TX at the age of 85. Charles was born on May 1, 1934 in Cat Spring, TX to Walter and Leona Bretschneider. He graduated from Bellville High School and Blinn Jr. College. While in college, Charles worked on the construction of FM 1094 from Cat Spring to New Ulm.
On August 28, 1955, Charles married Doris Louise Bishop, his high school sweetheart. It was a match made in heaven! They lived 65 wonderful years together and were blessed with 3 children.
After graduation from Blinn, they moved to Houston, TX where Charles began working for Wyatt Industries manufacturing pressure vessels for refineries. He was an Estimator in the sales department and later moved to the transportation department. During the steel crisis in the 1980's, Wyatt Industries closed, and Charles went to work for Spring Branch School District where he headed the Special Education Transportation Division. Later, Wyatt re-opened as Wyatt Field Services, and Charles rejoined the team as an Estimator until retirement.
Charles made several moves during his life, from Cat Spring to Bellville, then Houston, then Katy, and then to Sealy. After retirement, Charles and Doris lived their dream traveling all over the world. Their "4th child" Sammy, and adorable Maltese, went everywhere! Floyd and Terri Hurry were their long-time camping buddies and travel companions; they met when Linda and Danny were in kindergarten and took family vacations throughout the years. Their most memorable trip was the Christmas market river boat cruise on the Rhein River in Germany. They also explored the East Coast, West Coast, Canada, and Middle America in their RV, but their favorite place was Ouray, Colorado!
Charles enjoyed raising cattle on the family property in Cat Spring which became a family tradition. He loved tractors, trains, and lawn mowers, and was a man who was always ready to help anyone fix, build, repair, or install anything. Charles loved music. He played the piano by ear, and his repertoire included ragtime and hymns. He played the trombone in high school and was a member of the school's jazz band. He loved polka music, especially Mollie B's music and shows. Some of their weekend travels included attending Mollie B's polka parties and the annual trip to Wurstfest in New Braunfels.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Doris; children, Danny Bretschneider and wife, Kelly, Cheryl Spivey, and Danette Cudd; grandchildren, J.D. Spivey, Stephen Spivey (Azia), Ryan Bretschneider, Justin Cudd, Macy Bretschneider-Winkler (Joe), Katelyn Spivey, and Kayla Cudd; great-grandchildren, Jakub (Stephen & Azia), and one on the way (Katelyn); sister-in-law, Danna Harms and husband, Scott; and numerous other family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leona.
His children remember him as a kind, loving, patient, and gentle father. Although the quiet hero is gone, the legacy he left will live forever in the hearts of those he touched.
Special thanks to the Vantage Hospice staff, and to Sharon Cudd and Azia for being Doris' guardian Angels as they always appeared at times of need.

History of Wyatt M. Brooks Died December 09, 1913
Bellville, Tex, Dec 10, '13
On Tuesday afternoon just as the sun was setting and already lost behind the dark threating clouds, and the great Brazos flood was hanging over its valley from hill to hill and dealing death and destruction, one who had already given up the fight and calling for rest chose that day, full of sorrow, gloom and pathos, as the closing chapter of a long life and career, fully in keeping with the scenes around him, Wyatt M. Brooks, at the age of eight-five years and ten months, without pain or sickness, just simply became weary of his burdens and quit the fight and went to sleep and one more of the few remaining old citizens and Texas pioneers has vanished, leaving the work he began to a younger generation.
For 43 years he lived at the Brooks home on the hill overlooking the town and noted every change during all these years. The only near relatives he leaves is one sister in Waller county, one brother in Hays county and one son, J. W. Brooks, of this place, who is a surveyor and prominently know here.
Wyatt Marion Brooks was born in Upshur county, Georgia, January 24, 1828, of American parentage. On his father's side the Scotch blood prevailed, while on his mother's side, the Irish blood prevailed. He was the second son and third child of a family of eight children all reaching adult age in life and all save one reaching the age of 50 years or more.
When about 14 years of age his father removed from Georgia to Alabama. Here the subject of this sketch grew to Manhood, familiar with all the joys and hardships incident to poor people in a new country. Upon reaching his majority, he started in life overseeing for two bachelor brothers, whose father's home was on Sundays and other rest days, and it was to this aged man of conservative thought, wealth and influence, that he ever, in after life, pointed to as the guiding star of his earthly aims and hopes, it was to this man's precepts that made him an unfaltering Unionist during the exciting days just before our civil war. But when his adopted State (Texas) seceded, he volunteered and joined the ranks to defend his country in a cause which he believed to be wrong.
In January, 1852, W. M. Brooks removed to Texas and settled at Semponius; two years later he removed to Bellville, where he remained in and around until his death. After coming to Texas, he followed the carpenter's trade, together with cotton gin and press pin press (???) until the breaking out of the civil war.
In 1855, he married Louise Jane Atkinson, a native of Austin county, who died August 20th, 1894. Early in 1861 he joined the Confederate army, 26th Texas Cavalry, known as DeBray's Regiment, Company H, Frank Dupree, Captain, in which command he remained until the close of the war in 1865.
The first two years of the war were spent in and around Galveston, doing coast duties. The remaining two years were spent in facing the enemy in real warfare. After the war, he returned home to his family, wrecked in physical health and of his meager accumulations of worldly possessions, and started in life anew as best he could. In boyhood he was familiar with Indian outbreaks and murders, notably that of the burning and almost total destruction of the inhabitants of Ronevak, Ga., a small town near where his father lived. Has killed bear within two and a half miles of the court house at Bellville and deer, turkeys and smaller game almost within the town limits. Quite a number of times he has pointed out the buildings still standing that were here when he came to Bellville, all of which have been removed except one now owned, and occupied by S. A. Hill.

The date of birth and death you have for Herbert James belong to Herbert Brune Sr who did not serve in WW II but was married to Lula Brune. Herbert and Lula were buried in Sealy cemetery as well as my parents.
My father Herbert James Brune was born Nov 23, 1921 and died June 17, 2016. He served in World War II and was married to Alice Marie Washam Brune. I am their only daughter Carolyn Marie Brune Gribble. They had a son James Edward Brune who died after one day in the hospital. He is listed correctly. Jesse Bruton Jr., 85, of Fayetteville, passed away at Warm Springs Specialty Hospital in Luling on July 23, 2006, at 2:58 p.m..
Mr. Bruton was born July 2, 1921 in Sealy, TX, to Jesse and Agnes Campbell Bruton. Jesse had two sisters and two brothers. He graduated from Katy High School in 1940 and enlisted in the U.S. Army that same year. Jesse married his grade-school sweetheart Eleanor Gresser on August 1, 1942, at Luke Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mr. Bruton is survived by his wife Eleanor, two daughters Marjorie Smith and Gwendolyn Mead, and son Jesse Bruton III; nine grandchildren: De'Anna, Marcella, Wendolyn, Sterling, Kyle, Sarah, Mary Ann, Amy, and Brady; and two great- grandchildren: Corbin and Conner.
Mr. Bruton served as a Second Lieutenant in WWII in the United States Army's 87th Golden Acorn Division in the European Theater. He was reactivated for the Korean Conflict, serving as an aviator from December 1948 until he was discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1953.
After Jesse's first loves--Eleanor and family, his passion was flying. After Korea he continued his career as a pilot in both civilian and military capacities. Jesse flew for Bell Helicopter, where he tested and demonstrated all Bell models of rotary aircraft. He also demonstrated the first successful missile launching from a helicopter. Jesse distinguished his aviation career as a premier flight instructor and test pilot. He logged over 20,000 hours in rotary craft alone but was also certified in ever aircraft in the Army's inventory--fixed wing to rotary craft, turbo props to jet engines, and achieved the Army's highest certification as a Master Army Aviator before his retirement in 1971. Jesse served in the Texas National Guard's 111th Aviation Group. The 111th was one of two centers where all new rotary craft models were tested for introduction into military operations. Jesse was the 111th's Group Safety Officer and the first pilot certified to fly and train pilots in these emerging aircraft models. In this final leg of his career, Jesse earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
